Remarks
The placement percentage is quite high as in most of the IITs. Around 80% of the students in B.Tech programmes get placed. Placement percentage of the branches like mining engineering and computer science is 90% whereas the civil department lacks a bit regarding placements.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course is updated yearly. Its well designed. Its a 4 year course where 1 year is common and than after curriculum changes as per branch. Course is divided into 8 semesters having 2 semesters in 1 year.
Placement Experience
Placement and job opportunities are quite good. It can increase for sure. It has much potential to increase. Not even close to old iits but better than most nits. Yes college provide internships. Stipend can be as much as 1 lakh per month to zero.
College Events
activities include the student-published bi-annual campus newspaper Mailer Daemon, the annual inter-college cultural festival Srijan, the annual techno-management fest Concetto, the annual sports fest Parakram and the Spring Fest Basant.

Merit-Cum Means Scholarship:- Includes freeship for all 1st, 2nd Year 3rd Year & 4th Year B.Tech/Dual Degree/ Integrated M.Tech and 1st Year, 2nd-year M.Sc / M.Sc.Tech, & MBA, students. Eligibility:- Income of the Parent/Guardian should not be more than INR 6,00,000/- The merit criteria for awarding the MCM Scholarship to the B.Tech Integrated M.Tech, Dual Degree M.Sc.Tech, MBA students will be based on the OGPA 6.0 minimum obtained by the students up to the semester proceeding the semester in which the scholarship will be awarded. (Xerox copy of all semesters academic OGPA cards must be attached). For students having Summer / Special examination, minimum OGPA requirement is 7.00 out of 10. Students having disciplinary action against them will be debarred from award of Scholarship/Freeship
Campus Life
The campus has outdoor and indoor facilities for sports like athletics, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, squash, chess and table tennis. Interested students are also trained in combat sports such karate and boxing. Students choose between National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), National Sports Organisation (NSO) and yoga for an extra curricular activity.
Hostel Facilities
The IIT (ISM) campus is surrounded by offices related to mining such as the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, and the headquarters of DGMS and of Bharat Coking Coal Limited. The IIT (ISM) campus comprises academic buildings, student hostels with a 100% residential facilities for faculty, staff and students. The Health Center provides medical care to students, teachers, staff and their family members. IIT (ISM) is home to the Geological Museum, the Seismic Observatory, a Data Processing Laboratory, the Long Wall Mine Gallery and the Remote Sensing Laboratory. The Central Library is automated and provides services seven days a week, catering to more than 5500 users belonging to 17 departments and centers. The library houses 80,000 books, 8000 Ph.D. thesis and dissertations, 35,000 bound volumes of journals etc. There is a campus-wide fiber optic internet connection and Wi-Fi network, which covers all the departments, teachers' quarters, and students' hostels. There is a central computer lab, and computer labs in each of the Departments. Being a fully residential campus, IIT (ISM) has 10 hostels - seven for boys and three for girls. All hostels have a mess, canteen, badminton courts, volleyball courts and common halls (having TV and table tennis tables) except girls' hostels. The newly constructed hostels of boys and girls also have gyms in their compound, which are in addition to the main gym that is for all IIT (ISM) students. The hostels are named after gemstones. In 2011 the state government approved IIT (ISM)'s acquisition of up to 240 acres of land adjacent to the present campus.The plan for a 300-acre ISM regional campus in Vizag was scrapped due to ISM's conversion into an IIT.

Faculty
It's a mixture of exceptional faculty and very below grade professors who are not suitable for schools too. Some are very well versed with what they teach and very helpful and on the other side some are abysmal.
