Course Curriculum Overview

3

I wanted to become a doctor, and MBBS is the first step to become one, so I choose this course. This course makes you a primary care physician, capable of providing basic healthcare services. And being a bachelor's degree, this is a stepping stone for the future endeavours in medico life. Though I feel there's room for improvement in the flexibility of the course, as there's not much to choose what to study. Exams are once in 2-3 months, and are moderately difficult, except the professional exams, for which you have to put your best efforts

Internships Opportunities

5

Our students have to undergo a mandatory internship for 1 year in our hospital where they learn hands-on about healthcare delivery. Research opportunities are ample, and our students regularly receive grants from ICMR for their research

Fees and Financial Aid

There is no year wise fees as such. The total course fee is 5856 rupees, of which 1000 rupees is refundable as security deposit. There are no additional fees, except a few hundred rupees once in a while, for lab records and all. Everyone paid the same amount irrespective of caste status. There's no management category as this is a government college. Financial aids are not directly available through college, but often they let us know if any scholarship is accepting candidates.

Campus Life

4

Chisma-annual socio-cultural fest is usually held in March, while Wissen, the academic fest is held in November. A good collection of books and journals are available in library. The classrooms are equipped with projectors, sound systems, central Air conditioning, and in general well maintained. We have sports like football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton with dedicated grounds/courts. Also we have indoor games like chess, carrom, table tennis. We have our dance team, musical band, fashion crew, mental health support team among many other clubs in campus

Hostel Facilities

4

Single room was given since second year. They gave a bed, mattress, table, chair, an almirah. Everything was good quality and working great. Meal 8s available from the dining halls, and considering a mess, this is pretty good, though it needs improvement in hyegine and menu diversity. Hostels were allotted along with admission, and they are free of cost. Some of my seniors rented a flat nearby in AIIMS Nagar, and it's quite affordable too

Admission

I applied for counseling in the MCC portal, and with my rank AIR 484, I was likely to get AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Rishikesh, and IMS BHU. I rejected the other options because I felt they were too far from my hometown in West bengal, and Bhubaneswar is a nice city to live in. The admission is based on your NEET UG rank. If you have AIR around 400 or less, you're likely to get in , unreserved. SC and ST cutoffs go to around 10,000 and 15,000 each. Admission process is smooth and streamlined, and pretty much hassle free

Faculty

4

On an average, every department in final year has 8 faculties, which makes faculty-student ratio around 1:16. Most of them are really nice and will help you with anything relevant. All the faculties are very competent, but some of them are exceptional in their behaviour towards students. If I've to choose, I'll say Dr Priyadarshini from department of Physiology and Dr Balamurugan from department of Biochemistry. For obvious reasons, I can't say whom I didn't like, but there's some faculties who are just sadist. Thankfully, they are a small minority. In total, there are 9 semester exams, and 4 professional exams, and in first three years, there's mid-semester exams too. Midsems and endsems are pretty easy, but proffs are really difficult, and you have to put your heart into it to pass

Night Life

3

Gym, Staff Canteen and library is open 24*7. Dining halls serve food until 10 pm at night. In first three months, there will be restrictions in going out, in an attempt to curb ragging, after that, the in-time is 10.30 PM, though it's not that strict, and you can stay out well until 12 AM, sometimes beyond that. Puri beach is around 80 km from here, and a good weekend gateway, not to mention the innumerable temples of Bhubaneswar, including Udaigiri, Khandagiri. The hostels are in a gated community, so it's totally safe as long as you stay inside the campus walls. Outside, I'm not so sure

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is well organized by the authorities based on the latest medical aspect of our society. Practical classes and regular postings in hospital helps in better understanding. Being the only hospital in nearby cities, our hospital provides us a good exposure to varity of cases. Our Associate proff and HODs also look upto them and help us gain more real world experience. The best aspect of this field or if I have to say Why have I chose it is to serve the society. Absence of well qualified doc at the times of emergency is one of the leading causes of mortality in developing countried like India. Being in this profession, I just want to help people around me.
