What Students Say
Likes
- 60/40 % is the ratio of girls to boys and there are around 25 students per batch. Campus life is good not great but I like the environment of the college. Social interactions are way better than many other colleges.
- There is lot of clinical experience and therapeutic knowledge to be gained in both theory and practical aspect.
- A large patient and client inflow is observed and this is great to add up for treatment knowledge.
Dislikes
- Very less cultural and sports events. It is way too much into academics.
- Students are used as labor for various college works which they have received funds for.
- The college funds are not properly utilised and the practices like proper documentation for every small thing is rather petty and unnecessary.
Course Curriculum Overview
You'll be a good enough and well able as a physiotherapist if you follow through the course without any problems and get you a good enough placement in any hospitals unless you are planning to open personal clinic. This is one of the best therapeutic related colleges which specialise in persons with multiple disabilities.
Internships Opportunities
The college has an incampus hospital where we treat the clients and patients . There is paid internship for 6 months out of which 3 months the work is in campus and the other 3 in other colleges. The amount offered for this internship keeps changing but I believe currently it is around rs.11000 per month of intern.
Fees and Financial Aid
The base fees is 33000 per year which is very reasonable for the physiotherapy course. But for government college standards it seems bit higher than expected. The first year fee is 44000, a 11000 risk management fees is there which is returned after 4 years of course. There are various scholarships available for SC/ST students and families with below 3 lakh revenue per year. There is also merit scholarships which can be availed in the nsp site under the category of medical institutions.
Campus Life
I've mentioned earlier but there is little to no events for the cultural and sports side but there are many programs which are related to the field which are celebrated like : PT day OT day BPO day Speech day Autism day Cancer awareness day Disability day There is also an sports day. Other than these we have events related to Pongal, onam,Diwali, etc No clubs as of date and probably not anytime soon
Hostel Facilities
Girls have a 4 year hostel plan which costs 14000 yearly. The first year accommodation is outside the college but they provide bus facilities. For 2-4th year hostel is provided inside the campus. I can't say for sure how good the rooms are but I heard from my girlfriend that it's good enough. For boys the first year alone hostel is provided. You're going to have to search for room/pg from second year... I'm in 3rd year and I live alone nearby the college. The rent for rooms are quite expensive in Chennai but there are no options for boys. I suggest to live with others to overall reduce the rent in sharing.
Admission
I didn't choose for this. I landed this by pure luck and coincidence and I'm glad I did. But if you want to compare with other colleges then I would say even if it is lacking in other unimportant things and aspects it is solid for academics and things which matter more. (Money after placement) There are 2 forms of admission process you can get in either by counselling after writing the exam CET (common entrance test) or by other means like by being a person hailing from Tamil Nadu. There is special reservation for TN people and counselling separately for them as well.
Faculty
The BPT course is 4 years long with a 6 month internship which is divided inside and outcampus by 3 months each. For the entire physiotherapy department there are 10 internal staff and a few externals who teach specific papers. So the ratio is around 1:10 faculty to student. They are easily approachable but you must know something related to what you're about to ask and most importantly, a reference book. Exams are annual and difficult and every year has a viva. From 2nd year onwards there are practicals included in the viva. There is no reason to like or hate any of the faculty, this is rather trivial.
