What Students Say
Likes
- I appreciate the IEEE branch at my college, which promotes innovation and provides students with a platform to collaborate on cutting-edge projects, network with professionals, and enhance their technical and leadership skills.
- I really like our campus. It is quite big in size and there are a lot of cafes where one could chill out with friends. Most of my good memories of my college life are from the campus.
- Chandigarh University is quite lenient and helpful with fees. They have a lot of options for fee paying. The scholarship program is really appreciated as one gets scholarship on merit.
Dislikes
- The main reason which I joined chandigarh university was because it offered good placements. But this was all a big lie. I am in my final year now and no one is getting placed.
- Since you only need to score 30 marks in CUCET, there are a lot of students here. In my batch alone there are 7000 students
- The administration staff is very rude and there is a very bad chain of command. If I want to get something signed then I have to go from one block to the other and as I mentioned the campus is very big so they make harass us everytime and make us run
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum in short is very outdated. I am studying about technologies that are no longer used in our life. Technologies that are 30 years old. The curriculum definitely does not prepare you for the real world. Like all students, I had to scratch the surface of YouTube to be technically maintained in my stream. My suggestion is that the whole curriculum and marking system need to be changed in our college. They should shift their approach from theoretical knowledge to practical knowledge which could help a student hundred times more. Like I mentioned, the difficulty level of exam is fairly easy. You just need to know one paragraph the topic of the question and if you rephrase your answer miltiple time, you can easily expect full marks. Literally.
Internships Opportunities
As I have mentioned earlier that there are 7000 students in our batch. College provided intership for around 30-40 students only. i personally had the opportunity to do internship but it was off campus so they did not allow me to do the internship.
Placement Experience
Another main reason which I joined chandigarh university was placements. We all were promised good placements but this was another harsh truth which I got to know in my second year. No one gets placement easily. Girls are preferred more for placements. We become eligible for placements after 5th semester. Most companies which come here offer 3-4 lacs like tcs, Accenture etc. The highest package is which I have seen is 12 lacs but they do adverise that their students get package worth of crores which I hardly believe. When I joined, I was told that there is an 85% of students getting placed but in the last batch alone, thousands of students were unplaced. I am searching for jobs off campus as I have no hope of getting a placement on campus. If I do not get any off campus offer then I will pursue my master's and definitely from a different university.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure for bachelor students of computer science branch is 92000 per semester or 184000 per year. There is an entrance exam called CUCET. It is of 100 marks. I got 55 marks so I got a scholarship of 15%. Many of my batchmates got 100% scholarship as they excelled in the entrance test. But this scholarship is very volatile. If you get a back in any subject, if you are detained in any subject or if your CGPA gets below 7.5 then they will revoke this scholarship. Anyone who scores above 30 marks in CUCET will get a seat and you can have multiple attempts as well. So getting in is pretty easy.Chandigarh University have collaborated with many lending partners to make the process of fees more easy. To my knowledge, there is no fees categorisation for different categories of castes. But the hostel fees keep on rising. In my first year it was 100000 per year. But every year they raise this fees for new students. Currently its close to 1.5 lacs
Campus Life
Campus life is good with friends but the social events which are organised by the department of students welfare(DSW) are not that good. They do bring in some popular celebrities like akshay kumar, manoj Tiwari etc. but the management and crowd is not good. Sexual harassment has happened many times in front of my eyes. Coming to the lobrary department, their selection of books are vast and you can easily get many books. If you want a specific book you can raise your query and youc an collect it in a couple of days. They have also built a new library which is really neat and aesthetically pleasing. Sports and extracurricular activities are also really good here. One can enroll in the sports department easily and opportunities will be provided to them.
Admission
After completing my 12th class, I applied for multiple colleges like lovely professional University, thapar university, Manipal University etc. I wanted to go to thapar but the fees was more than double from Chandigarh University. I crossed out manipal because it was too far from my home. I narrowed down to lovely professional University and chandigarh university as I thought I might get batchmates from all over the country but I was wrong. Most students here are from haryana, bihar and himachal. So there was just the exposure of north india. The admission process is fairly simple here. There is an entrance exam known as CUCET and if you get above 30 marks then you are in. You can easily get 30 marks just by guessing the objective test. So there is no limit of seats here. That is the main demerit of this college. There are tens of thousands of students in our university.
Faculty
The faculty of my branch is subpar. They don't have any technical knowledge. They only speak what is in their presentation which nobody understands. Literally half of the class has more knowledge than the faculty. There are around 200 teachers in my branch and around 7000 students. In my four years I have not had one decent teacher who had real teaching skill or had deep knowledge about any topic. There are mid semester tests every month and one end semester exam. The approach to cracking the exam is easy. You just have to fill your sheet as much as possible. Just rephrase your answer several times and you can easily maintain 8 CGPA. I once studied very hard for my exams and wrote to the point answers. I made sure to fill one page for one answer. I got 5 CGPA that semester. Next semester i didn't study that much for the exam and just rephrased my answers, i got 7.2 CGPA that semester
