Dislikes
- The super speciality hospital building is at a distance from the academic building which leads to time consumption and the hygiene of hospital building is questionable.
- As the college is newly developed the interaction with other colleges and their seminars and workshops as few which leads to lesser information inflow and reduced social interaction.
- As the campus hasn't been fully developed yet there is no field in campus for sports or auditorium for organising events in campus that leads to reduced personal growth
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this curriculum based on my interest for studying the human body and the respect given in the society for this profession. MBBS curriculum with new NMC guidelines has helped me enter into solving real-world problems from the very first day of college working on the cadaver and then interaction with patients in the 2nd yr. As of now India has advanced quite a lot in terms of medicine but availability of new technology and medical equipments in all hospitals has become a necessity that needs to be fulfilled. The frequency of exams according to me is quite appropriate with an exam every 3 months and the difficulty is quite moderate and clinical based helping us solve real life problems that is a great initiative and helps me learn better.
Internships Opportunities
Our college provides in house Internship for one year right after graduation with a stipend of 28,895. Our college actively helps students participate in research projects done by our professors and promotes our own research work.
Fees and Financial Aid
Jhargram Government Medical College and Hospital is a new medical government medical college that started in 2022. As a student of the very first batch, the details provided here are very apt. Tuition fee: Rs. 6000/yr Caution fee : Rs.2000 (only at the time of admission) hostel fee : Rs.144/yr (no lab/management/development fee required) Scholarships are provided to students belonging to OBC/ST/SC by the West Bengal government to the residents to West Bengal. You can check out at https://wbmdfcscholarship.in/aikya_app/home_app.php Students with no more than 3 drop years can apply for the SVMCM scholarship that gives Rs.60,000/yr and students with more than 2 drop years can apply for aikyashree that gives Rs.24,000/yr ( make sure to apply in the 1st year of MBBS) (As it is a government medical College the fee structure will not be increasing.)
Campus Life
there have been no annual fests so far but it will be next year in the months of September typically. There are very wide range of books on all subjects available in the library which is quite accessible to all students. All classrooms have projectors, the labs have sufficient supply of microscopes and other equipments enough for all batches. The campus is still not fully completed so there are no sports activities offered.
Hostel Facilities
Each room can accommodate two to three people. There are separate or common washrooms depending on the year of batch. Each Student are provided with almirah, bed, study table and chair. The rooms are very spacious and the hostel is kept clean as it gets cleaned by the sweeper daily. The meals are provided 4 times a day and there is a wide variety of food that are quite healthy and delicious at times which is never heard of in a government hostel. The registration process is done at the time of admission and is given to only those students who live at a distance greater than 14km or more. The affordability is almost as good as free as it only costs ?12 per month. The locality is a little sensitive and gets dark at night which is not safe for girls and even boys to go out otherwise no incidents have been heard of all these years. There are a few PGs available too nearby.
Admission
I chose this college over some other colleges that started earlier because of its distance from my home and ease of communication. It is 2 hr away from Kolkata, 1 hr away from Jamshedpur and an hour hr away from kharagpur. It also has a very diverse population from two different states and is a sub-urban town developing speedily inviting a large population in town. I couldn't make it to the colleges in the main city due to lesser marks in the neet examination because I had more negative markings than expected. Our college's admission process involves bringing necessary documents to the West Bengal counselling forum. The students must have passed the neet examination with the cut off - 574 in 2022,590 in 2023, 637 in 2024. The admission process is quite easy and takes a day barely.
Faculty
On average there is a 25:1 student-to-teacher ratio i.e. per subject there are 4 professors ( 1 HOD and 3 assistant professors). Most of the faculties are very friendly with the students. The I would rather not name the faculties based on likes and dislikes as that would be very disrespectful but I would definitely like to state the subjects that caught my interest irrespective of certain faculties that would have led me dislike the subject otherwise. In first year Anatomy has to my favourite as we had amazing assistant professors and the subject itself is intriguing and in 2nd year pharma has been amazing so far with the help of enthusiastic professors. The best clinical to attend has to the Gynae and Obs department for definitely for its talented, Interactive and inspiring professors. There are 3 semesters each yr acc to the new NMC curriculum with one final exam. The difficulty level is upto the mark and relevant with the final exam and 97% of students pass the exams successfully.
