- The campus is terrific, it's very very green and the sports facilities are really good. We have an indoor basketball court, indoor badminton court, squash, table tennis, etc. There is a lot of free space to walk and it's not crowded at all.
- The infrastructure is really good. We have recently been moved into a new block that is fully air conditioned and has centralized AC in all the classrooms and has smart TVs in all classrooms. The library is very useful too.
- The curriculum is one of the best and advanced. We are being taught all the basics and core subjects that are useful to us from the get go. This helps us focus on our major and gives us more time to excel at it.
Dislikes
- The college has very few students while that is a good thing it is also a bad thing as there's not a lot of crowd to mingle and interact with.
- The placement cell is one major drawback. As the college is fairly new and hasn't been fully established yet the placement cell too isn't properly set so there's an uncertainty in that aspect.
- The college also isn't able to provide it's students with the best internship opportunities yet. There are very few companies that have come and picked out very few students for their internships.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is one of the best. It is very advanced, updated and modern. They don't waste time on unnecessary subjects and dive right into the core subjects of the speciality. Through this the curriculum prepares us for the real world and helps us focus on what is actually needed to be succesful and get placed. We have exams every month, either CATs or mid sem exams or end sem exams. The difficulty is moderate and not too hard, however it depends mainly on the professor.
Internships Opportunities
My college doesn't provide very good opportunities for internships. Very few companies have come as it is a very new college. The only companies that have come are HCL and MotorQ. However, motorq took 3-4 students for internship for around 80k stipend and also offered a ppo to 2 of them for 1cr. This will be the first year for the college to establish a placement cell and for the first batch of my college to graduate.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees in my college per annum for BTECH CSE is 3L per annum. For each batch, the fees differs and is increasing. For the previous 2 batches, the fees was 2.4L per annum. The admission fees is 20,000 which is non refundable. The caution deposit is 20,000. During the course there is an exam fees that is levied that is 1200 per course. The hostel fees is 1.4L per annum for AC shared room with 3 sharing and for non AC it is 75,000. If you don't stay in hostel and are a day scholar then bus fees is mandatory which is 71,000 and is increasing every year. The AC bill for an AC room has to be paid separately each month based on your usage. Which varies from 300-700. The college provides scholarship based on merit to the batch toppers and to the students that did well in the college entrance test.
Campus Life
The campus life is okay it's not that great. As it is a new college, there are less people and not a lot of non Tamil people. It is a little difficult to socialize in the beginning especially if you are from a different background and do not know tamil. The events are also okay they are not anything great compared to othr colleges. We have our annual cultural fest that is Insticts and our annual technical fest that is invente. They are typically held in march and sept-oct respectively. The books in the library are highly accessible and there is a very good collection of books too. Sports in the campus is high class, the facilities are really good and maintained. There are a lot of clubs that are present in the college that are run by students. These clubs regularly have activites and events that are for the members and non members of the club as well.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is good. There are multiple types of rooms available, shared, non shared, ac, non ac. The mess is of two types, premium mess and regular mess. The premium one costs 150 and the regular one costs 105. The menu is different in both but that's pretty much it. The hostel is pretty affordable as compared to other colleges. The locality is pretty out of the city. It's on the outskirts of Chennai. The area is empty and not very developed. However, there are many apartments outside and close to the college to rent and a few PGs too.
Admission
I also applied to Jaypee Noida, VIT, Thapar, SRM, Amrita and Manipal. I got into all of them with computer science core. I didn't choose Jaypee because it was in Delhi and it's too far away from home, hence due to safety reasons we eliminated that option. I rejected Thapar due to this reason too. At VIT, I got cs core at Chennai campus and I thought SNU was a better option than VIT and SRM. Amrita and Manipal were good options too but in the end I decided SNU Chennai was where I wanna be. The campus, the location, the course, the fees and the faculty all factors considered I thought SNU chennai was my best choice. The admission process for my college is a 2 step process, there's a written test SNUCEEE which is followed by an interview if shortlisted. The exam is pretty easy but there's a lot of competition and the interview is just to test your basic communication skills.
Faculty
There's not a lot of faculty yet as it still is a new college. There isn't enough specialized faculty for every course and specialization. The faculty that is there, is very approachable and friendly. They all maintain extremely good relations with the students and are always available for us when we need them. The exams are moderately difficult, it all depends on the faculty handling the question paper. Sometimes the question papers come from other colleges like IITs and NITs too. The course curriculum is highly relevant and is up to date with the current world. This is a very big advantage for this current market requirements and opportunities.
