What Students Say
Likes
- The methods used for teaching and the student - faculty interaction
- Access to a variety of academic courses and workshops held by the college that create a good learning atmosphere
- The peers from different background is also one of the good things about the college which improve social connections and foster academic and social development
Dislikes
- It is not particular but some students may not be able to handle the pressure of submission, deadlines and meeting the attendance criteria, however it is not very difficult since the faculty is supportive
- Mental health services might be limited which may again make it difficult to handle the pressure
- Sometimes one subject has many teachers which may make the grasping of the subject a bit difficult since every teacher has their own way of teaching the same subject
Course Curriculum Overview
I was always interested and passionate about law and criminal law specifically. The curriculum provided is helpful both, practically and theoretically. The workshops and skill sessions conducted by the college by inviting various professionals in different fields and conducting workshops helps further applications of the theories taught. Only improvement I feel would be introductions of one or 2 subjects of law from the first year itself. The timing of the exams and it's frequency is not stressful nor short, it is well planned and has a suitable gap. The difficulty level is moderate.
Internships Opportunities
I cannot point out the exact stipend amounts offered yet many companies offer the role of legal interns i to the students from 3rd year and the college pushes the students as well for these internship
Placement Experience
Placements of the college are okay. Not very high and not very low, it is at a good point which can be improved and be higher. From 3rd year the college provides for internship opportunities in many big law firms. The avg package may be around 6-8 lakhs and the highest may be around 15-17 lakhs but it fluctuates every year. Companies like ELP, SAM, trilegal, Cyril amarchand mangaldas,AZB patners, etc have offered packages to many students. There is no exact data available for exact % of students placed or offered made. I plan to go in litigation after my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am currently in the 2nd year of my law school,I have paid 74,500 (total tution fees including all the fees)for the first year and the same for the second year, however from the third year the fee is decreased by 5 to 10 thousand rupees. the total course of 5 years ranges from 3.14 lakh to 3.60 lakh.
Campus Life
Campus Life is very lively and fun, what a student expects from his/her college. There are many different committes which organize many events and workshops. Recently a sports fest, Jazbaa was organized in which over 1000 atheletes participated. Different committes such as l'avocat, Criminal law forum, constitutional law and reform society,IPR,cyber law,etc provide for a very good experience to the students. The infrastructure of the college is very good since it's situated on the 8th floor of the mithibai building with AC classrooms with well equipped smart boards. The access to law databases such as SCC and Manupatra and the range of books available in the library provide for a good base for academics.
Admission
It is one of the most prestigious college with a very renowned trust, it ranks as one of the top law colleges in India and the location of the college is also good. I always wanted to get into this college so nothing went wrong. I had applied to DM Harish, Fergusson, parul university, Nirma and nmims Mumbai in which I had gotten admission as well. But since I was waiting for my final list for PGCL, I got in. The admission process is the passing of 12th grade and clearing the cutoff in the MH-CET llb 5 years exams. A score above 110 is considered good and will get you in this college. In terms of overall studies, academic sessions and workshops, faculty, attendance, I was sure PGCL was better than the ones I had applied in. Since it is government aided,it is autonomous and merit based. Which gives you an idea about the crowd. Hence PGCL tops these parameters
Faculty
The academic portion is completely under Mumbai University so there are 3 subjects in every sem. The faculty is very professional and has a good skill of imparting knowledge on the particular subjects. There are 120 students in every batch and they are divided in 60 students which makes 2 divisions. The lectures are from 8 am to 1 pm with a 30 mins break. Faculties are very approachable for both college work and any other work related to academic. I dont dislike any of the faculty since they are all very skilled and professional in their work. The marks are divided as 25 for internals(10 mark internal written and 15 marks assignments)per subject, and 75 marks (written) final exam. The difficulty is moderate. Very few students may face difficulty in clearing exams but they make it through. The curriculum is very relevant to both arts and law.
