Remarks
Overall the management is good. A few problems occur here and there, they are resolved later on but it will take a lot of time. The management responds but you need to give them a lot of time and have a lot of patience. Sometimes it may take 3-4 months for the management to take the required steps.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum consists of two years divided into four semesters. The first two semesters have all the introductory subjects for building the base for specialization in the second year. Four subjects are taught by dividing into 2 parts each. The subjects include - Journalism and legality around it, Advertising and PR, Cinema and basic photography and Basic Research. For the specialization in the second year, there are four fields to choose from - 1. Journalism 2.New media 3.Advertising and PR 4.Film and TV production. Students have to fill a form for telling their priorities of specialization. At the end of every semester, there is a theory paper that is subjective along with practicals which include projects and research work. The examination is quite wholesome for developing your skills if given seriously.
Placement Experience
The placement is very bad. Almost none. No companies come. There is a placement cell which is made at the end of the last semester, unfortunately, it is usually inactive. The faculty can help one to get a few placements done but they are not much, for the majority of the students they have to look on their own.
College Events
There are a lot of activities which keep taking place in college. It is a good college to explore your inner talents. People who are in extracurricular activities they can get to do a lot of things. A lot of facilities are there for - 1. Sports - huge grounds, Swimming pool, Courts, etc, 2. Music - Music society, 3. Acting - Theater and acting club, 4. Film and Photography club - This is a good club, 5. Dance society, 6. Literature club, writing competitions, poetry, etc. An annual fest is celebrated where a lot of other colleges also take part. It is for 3 days. This is a great time to showcase your talent. The last day of the fest is a really good one. Also, annual sports events are also conducted where different college teams participate.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is as follows, Divided into two years - the First year - Rs.77000/-, Second year - Rs.62000/-. If we include other expenses on an average it would go up to - The First year - Rs.80000/- The second-year - Rs 70000/-. There are a few things one has to pay for apart from studying fees. Due to some lack of facilities sometimes a few things have to be rented, repaired and gotten on your own which will cost some money.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I didn't opt for any of the above. I don't have any insight into how one avails it in this college. There is an Administration branch where you can get all this information.
Campus Life
The campus life is very vibrant. Students from various backgrounds come here. There is a lot of mix of culture and the people are quite friendly. The gender ratio is good, maybe around 60:40 - Girls: Boys. A lot of parties and actives keep happening for different departments and hostels so the campus is always active. There is a lot of diversity in terms of where the students come from, there are students of different states and different countries also, diversity is well celebrated. When it comes Race, Religion and sexual orientation the environment in the campus is friendly and accepting. There is a diverse economic status of students but it is not felt as such. The extracurricular activities are great. There is a lot of participation and healthy competition.
Alumni/Alumna
There are an alumni meet conducted every year but it is more about dancing and having food. There is someone to one interaction with the alumni but they are also a little casual about the meet. They are helpful but one needs to be in contact for a long time.
Admission
I wanted to do a creative course and GGSIPU is the only place that gives a master's degree in communication in Delhi. I gave the IPU CET examination conducted by GGSIPU in the last week of May 2017. I cleared the exam with an all India rank 28. I was in the outside Delhi category which has only 12 seats. During the counseling which was held in the mid of June, they took all the details of my schooling and graduation along with copies of mark-sheets. Only one day of counseling was there and there was no second counseling date. A demand draft was taken for paying the admission fee. A form of acceptance and general information was to be filled by all students and given in attachment with their copy of mark-sheets. In the last week of June, we had an orientation program where we were given a detailed insight into the subjects covered and work done during the two years course. There was a detailed introduction of all the students with the faculty. the faculty along with the dean also introduced themselves to the students. Each and every subject taught there was introduced to the students in detail and what kind of aptitude is required for which field was also explained. We were explained about the curriculum by each and every professor. All of them shared informative details about what they teach and what all they can help the students with. From 1st August, the session started.
Faculty
The faculty is very driven and especially in the first two semesters, they ensure that you earn your basics well. They help you with all the work and studies that you do. The teachers are very much qualified, almost all of them hold a Ph.D. All the teachers have a lot of field experience in their subjects. They are quite aware of what is happening in the market but the only thing is they are not in touch with it now, which becomes a hassle sometimes. The guidance provided by them academically is very enriching but lacks when it comes to practical application. For academic advancement, the faculty is very good but not for on-ground practical training.
