Course Curriculum Overview

4

Since the syllabus is decided by the university, our college have no role in decision making. The course for which I enrolled was BA English & History Dual Core. There are only core papers with no complementary papers. This was an attraction since this course is rare and only this college offers it under University of Calicut. Students study 60% of both BA English & BA History. This course is tailor made for UPSC CSE. Also after completing this course students can either go for MA English or for MA History. Most of the faculties use interactive method of teaching. World history is not included in the syllabus. It would be good if they could include that too. Semesters are of 6 months long. And exams are at the end of the semester. They are medium-high difficulty level. English is so far less difficult compared to that of History.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since it is government college not much fees are required. And students with egrantz scholarship are excluded from paying fees. Even the students who have to pay fees are required to pay only below 10000 for all three years. Many scholarships are available like egrantz, state merit scholarship, central sector scholarship etc. Placements are not provided.

Campus Life

5

The campus life is top notch. The three years I spent there was the best. Made a lot of friends and memories. Poetry Carnival is held once a year which lasts for 3-4 days. Last one was in February this year. Artists of different parts of India amd Kerala participate. Accomodation and food are provided. More than 1 lakh books are available in the library along with guides amd books for many competitive exams. The libary also have subscribed to many e journals which are available for students at free of cost. Sports and other extracurricular activities are offered. Students have bagged many prizes. Students are selected even to the national teams. Last year our college was the runner up of arts fest, A Zone. NCC and NSS are very active. Every year many students are selected for various camps. Students have participated even in Republic Day Parade. Many other clubs are there.

Admission

Admission is based on the higher secondary marks. No entrance test is required. Anyone who have passed higher secondary or equivalent can apply. Application is through calicut university website. Application fee will be under 500 and the time is May - July. Reservations based on category, income, sports etc are there.

Faculty

4.5

Faculty-to- student ratio will be in the range of 1:45 - 1:55. Since we are college students it is not something to worry. The teachers are very updated with recent technologies and they incorporate those into their teaching. All are well qualified since it is a government college. Almost all have doctorate. They are very kind and social. We can approach them any time for any help. They also suggest us career areas and courses for higher studies. They provide us with notes and other study materials. Also previous year question papers. Regular exams are conducted to check the level of students. Also the assignments are not burdensome. A few faculties make us take seminars and presentations. Classes are interactive. Students and teachers often involve in discussions. They also update students with programs arranged by other institutions so that we can participate. During the time of final semester project they help us a lot. Overall faculties of this college are so good.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is suitable for the modern age of teaching, the way of education is well balanced with projects, assignments, presentations and also notes .we have reading assignments where the faculty members ask us to read an entire book and give our review on it.the exams are quiet moderate and in my opinion teachers should use more ai tools as a learning aid which will be more effective for the students

Placement Experience:

From the last semester pass out we a re eligible for the campus recruitment for job or placement. So many companies visit us for the interview or some checking like , hero honda , maruti suzuki etc. the main reason for it was a low amount of budget is that get from this placement maybe 15 thousand let month ect. Only the company can take the students for it so the percentage of the students who getting placement will change in every year. My plan was to get an admission in the central government University for doing master of degree in History. And try the best exam called upsc.
