- Padiyar college is a college established more than 100 years ago and the heritage is still continued
- All the faculties in the college have PG qualifications and are good instructors
- The medical college hospital is one of the most famous hospital in the district and has a lot of patients visiting everyday, thus providing first hand experience to students in dealing with different kind of disease conditions.
Dislikes
- The location of the college, Chottanikkara although a temple town lacks certain necessary shoping and recreational facilities.
- The year after i joined the strength of the batch has been increased from 50 to 63 leading to classes being a little cramped
Course Curriculum Overview
The course of study is 4.5 years of studies and 1 year of mandatory internship at the College Hospital. BHMS although hard to study has been a very successful course after completetion and is easy to get a good paying job after completetion. Semester exams are conducted every 4 months and a model exam every year before the yearly university Exams. Supplementary exams arew conducted for students who fail the yearly universitiy exams every 6 months. Only downside I felt in the curriculum is the slight lack of clinical hours which can help mold the students to prepare for the real world.
Internships Opportunities
A mandatory 1 year internship has to be done in college Hospital and provides a stipent of 23000 to the Interns. The purpose of the internship is to provide students will experience dealing with different medical cases. The interns responsibility in the hospital range from assisting doctors to working in pharmacy.
Fees and Financial Aid
The student have to pay around 4000 for tuition every year along with other service fees of around another 4000 leading to total of around 8000 every year. This includes the bus fare, library charges, etc. An exam fees of around 3000 has to been paid to attend the university exams. Scholarship are provided by the government for students with poor financial backgrounds of around 10k - 15k every year. 1 year of mandatory internship is also present which also provides a 23000 stipend every month.
Campus Life
Padiyar college gives focus to extra curricular activities almost same as the academic aspects. Programs are conducted in the college by a College Union, which are a group of students elected to specific roles through an yearly college elections. Yearly a Sports fest, an Arts fest and multiple other programs are held during different festival occasions. Along with these National seminars, Remembrance days for the college founders,etc are also held once every year. College Library has wide variety of academic books and are accessible to all students. Students can also rent book from the college library free of cost with a library card provided during the admission. The college also has wide variety of social clubs which students can be part of. Arts club, forest Club, Movie club, etc to name a few
Admission
In order to get admission to this college you have to pass NEET exams which decently high ranks. The admission applications are also through NEET websites. Few seats in the college are reserved for seperate community of students. NEET exams are conducted once every year and has quite a tight competition as more than 5 lakh students attending every year.
Faculty
The college has 44 Teaching faculty members all with Post Graduate qualifications and are excellent mentors. All the faculties are friendly to the students and are easily approachable for academic and non academic issues. The faculties being doctors have really good experience dealing with variety of different medical cases and are good mentors capable of molding students to be the future of the society.
