Course Curriculum Overview
In one word, CREATIVITY. This course requires mostly hand skills (which can be developed along the duration of this course with sufficient practice) and creativity which attracted me. If we are determined and dedicated towards our curriculum from the very beginning, it helps in enhancing our knowledge towards the field as years go by. One of the big suggestions many students would like to propose is exposure to the outer world (how dentistry is appreciated in other states or countries , the technique the adopt amd why they do so etc). Field visits every year would help students in shaping their mindset towards the course. The more difficult the exams are , more will be the effort submitted from them.
Internships Opportunities
In Yenepoya Dental College, internship is to be compulsorily completely in this college itself. A stipend of 5000rs per month is provided to each intern. All departments have a specific number of working days.
Fees and Financial Aid
We are paying a fee of 4,00,000 per year for five years (can also be paid as 5,00,000 for four years) tuition fee and 1,50,000 per year hostel fee. Those who have scored above 90% in their 12th grade will be awarded a scholarship of 25% off of their first year fee. And this scholarship avails if students continue to score more than 70% in their their (consecutive) University Exams. Overlapping of two concessions is not considered. A separate fee is paid for at the time of examination. Hostel fees include laundry fee, mess fee, bus fee etc. AC charges should be separately paid and bill of each month will be updated according to the useage. Additional fee should be paid for those in need of food during Ramadan timings.
Campus Life
Annual programs and sports are held only once a year conducted by UG students of a specific year (usually annual program by 4th year and sports day by 3rd year students). Extracurricular activities are very less encourged in this college. Library provides a wide variety of books based on our curriculum and other books are available in the campus outside library. Within classroom along with classic old blackboards, we have LED projector and recently a smart digital TV was introduced. All lecture halls are air-conditioned and fans are also installed. A student council is formed for better interaction between students and faculty. The procedures required for the permission to visit home or take a leave is very difficult. Holidays are cut short mostly which makes it difficult for students travelling long distances to thier hometown.
Hostel Facilities
Over the duration of 3 years we have already changed 2 hostels and the current hostel room is very small compared to the other 2 hostels. 3 are staying in 2 people room and its very difficult as it makes it difficult for students to study. Each room has a bathroom. Meals provided are sometimes good but there are days when the quality of food provided is questionable. There will be slight changes in menu every month. Hostel registration is done along with the admission. At the time of admission , first year hostel fee has to be paid.
Admission
To be eligible for any medical courses (apart from allied and paramedical cources) NEET entrance exam is a must. Eligiblilty depends on the cut off and each year it varies. Those who have cleared NEET can proceed to apply for colleges in official NEET website where all details including our choice of college is entered. Once the college approves our application, aspirants are bound to wait till the 2nd and 3rd round of admissions are over. It might not always clear by first round. Marks scored in NEET is of almost importance here. The waiting period is one of the most stressful time period of this admission process.
