Course Curriculum Overview
Bioengineering in IIT Madras is pretty good (not equally fruitful as CS). There are lot of research opportunities in campus as well as outside campus in computational biology, bioprocessess, etc. The course starts with basic introduction to biology, gmengineering mathematics and physics background with chimacal science courses included. Slowly and gradually each semester the course takes you deeper into the field of bioengineering with complete freedom given to students to do minors and specifications in computational biology, bio-processess, biomedical, etc. Overall it's fun ????
Placement Experience
Third year students can seat for campus internships, while placementsgl are for final year students. Companies like google, Microsoft, Adobe, etc do come to campus. Average package for bioengineering is 9 LPA. Around 99-100 % students get placed from campus. My plan is to do a startup after getting an industry exposure. I am flexible to choose to do research or job in initialgl years after getting a degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are few government scholarships for almost each section of students, eg. ST/SC students can apply at NSP portal for postmetric scholarships, OBC students can apply for MCM scholarships and also there are many scholarships provided by faculties, alumnies, departments. Students also get Samsung scholarship, Google scholarship. If a students gets NSP scholarship then he/she will get around 50K scholarship, with tution fee waiver, but has to pay hostel and mess fee. For five year it's around 5 lacks for ST students.
Campus Life
There are many cultural and technical festivals that keep happening throughout the semester or year. To name few Saarang is the biggest student run cultural festival, while Shaastra is the biggest student run technical festivals. They comegl consecutively one after other ( mostly during winter break ). Apart from these two festivals, students participate in inter IIT events such as InterIIT sport, culturals, tech, etc and get chance to represent their campus at national level to other IIT's. Inter hostel events include: TechSoc, LitSoc, Shroiter, Deans trophy, etc. Other events which happen around campus are : Ganesh Chaturthy celebrations, Holi, Janmashtami, Ethenic days, Department Festivals, etc There is Central library with plenty of books and reference books too with multiple copies. Students enthusiastically participate ingl various technical clubs under gmCFI ( Centre For Innovation).
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are pretty decent. Freshers have to stay in triple or double sharing while third year students and onwards gets single room. Each room has a fan, study table, tube light, window, bed, cupboard, chair. Student has to purchase matress, bucket, and other daily use items. There are two washrooms in a lobby, lan connection is available in each room. Students will be alloted a room in first year by college, in subsequent yearsgm they can choose the room but not the hostel. It's compulsary to take mess if you are a hosteller. There are few rental rooms available outside campus but not recommended as they are costly.
Admission
Those who are from Schedule Tribe or schedule cast or PWD section get another chance to study under some IIT professors and write advance like exam. If they clear it they get the branch alloted during jossa councelling (This course is called Preparatory Course)
