A journey of experience

According to me, the good things outpaces the bad ones while my college is concerned. Some suggestions. 1. The security needs to be toned down. It's a college, not an army school. 2. Dont run too much after gardening. It's a college, not a tourist destination. 3. Spend more towards lab equipment rather than infrastructure.

Being under 10,000 rank in the merit list, I had enough choices of colleges if not the top ones. But one of the reasons I chose this particular college was its infrastructure and lab equipment it had for mechanical engineering. It has several lathe machines, which are a foundation for being a good mechanical production engineer. The college is located on the outskirts of the city Vadodara, so there is no hustle and bustle. The atmosphere there is calm and serene.

One of the most lengthy curriculum of the bachelor's degree is of Mechanical Engineering. So can't blame the college for it. But the college managed it well. Each department of mechanical engineering has a professor dedicated to the field. Also, each subject has a laboratory so students can apply their knowledge practically. In addition to the regular course, additional courses and guest lectures are also organized by the college.

The was no internship until I passed out. But according to my juniors, they were provided with internship and the stipend was around 3-4k according to government norms. The University has made it compulsory now to have an internship in the last year of engineering to give a boost to student's career. The experience certificate helps in the placement seasons.

Previously there were not many companies visiting the campus. But during out graduation, several companies visited and recruited students as a graduate engineer trainee. The companies included Hi-Tech Engineering, Polycab wires, Anchor Ltd, etc. and the salary offered was around 2.5L per annum. A student can clear the placement interview with decent aptitude and technical knowledge. The college also hosts open pool campus drives.

1.Ganesh Chaturthi- It is one of the events which is celebrated on a large scale in our college. The festival goes on for 11 days and each day is dedicated to a department. Many students participate in competitions and show their talents. At night, garba is organized for hostilities. 2. Navratri- We do not have garba all the 9 nights. The night before the 1st day of Navratri is celebrated as 'Ratri before Navratri'. The whole college comes that night and makes a human sea at college ground. A spectacular view to watch!.

It's not too much expensive like premier colleges but surely makes a hole in the parent's pocket. The hostel costs more than the college fees. I don't know about now, but college fees must be around 80,000/- and hostel fees 1,15,000/-INR.

Loan facilities are available by Canara bank which has a tie-up with college. It's a centralized bank so the interest on a student loan is also less. Also, the student has to start paying for the loan a year after graduation. Scholarship programs are available if you score in top 3-5 in your respective department. More if you come in the top 10 in University rankings. The easiest is if you are an SC/ST. You just need to fill a form, attach your caste certificate and you'll get your fees back. No talent needed.

Campus life is the same as you see everywhere. Its green everywhere and you won't get bored roaming. Just need to have a valid response if security catches you. They're very strict. The gender ratio is almost equal except mechanical engineering. In terms of diversity, you'll find students mostly from Gujarat. A small part of students is from other states. No foreigners found during our days. Extracurricular activities are going on the whole year. You just need to find the one you're interested in and participate. Your achievement will be displayed on notice board.

I would rate the hostel 5 out of 5. In our first and second year of engineering, the mess food was awful and there were only two routers in the whole hostel. But after that, the hostel management took the student's complaints seriously and improved very well. Now, you will get high-speed wifi and high-class food. Othe facilities like laundry, gym, ground for playing cricket and football, etc are also available.

The alumni network is very vast. The college does the honor to keep the passed out students connected. Annual meets are organized in college itself so that students can meet and recall their memories. The seniors are very helpful in every way. They'll guide you wherever you need. You will automatically do the same for your juniors and the cycle continues.

The final exam of each semester is conducted by Gujarat Technological University. So it is according to university rules. The intermediate exam which is also called internals is held by the college. The internal-external exam weightage is 30-70%. In addition to this, internal and external practical viva is also conducted to examine the practical knowledge of students. The final grade point average is calculated including all the marks. So the students are required to perform all around.

Well the college is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University, so the admission process is pretty much same as other colleges in the state. The first part is mostly online. 90% work was done on my smartphone. Filling the online form, chossing the college, checking the merit list and results of various rounds. Once the college was confirmed according to the merit list, I was required to report at the college to fill the admission form. I must tell that, during the visit, the staff was very helpful. There was no confusion among students even there were many people present including parents. Canara bank has a special tie up with the college, so education loan can be availed on the same day with admission.

Each faculty is required to have a masters degree to qualify for the job. So there is no doubt in their knowledge. Secondly, during our times the faculty were friendly except one or two. They keep changing over the years, so can't tell about the present faculties. But I am sure the college would not compromise in teaching for students. The students also get a chance to participate in social work as some faculties as assigned to social duties. Once a year, the college organizes a trip to nearby villages and help the needy.
