IIT Roorkee: An honest review

I dont think I took admission in IIT Roorkee Metallurgical and Materials Engineering just at lloking at the course curriculum, it's just my rank that decided this, actually what I did was I prepared a list of all the best colleges and their branches what I was getting according to my rank, then I ordered them according to the ourse curriculum, like the tech branches first, then branches with physics syllabus preffered(as I like physics), then goes chemistry, then maths, and that's it. The exams here in IITR are held twice per semester, first the midterm and then comes the endterm examinations. The difficulty level is moderate, easy to score if you study, also depends on the professor, some profs make the exams much difficult. Aslo, there is an option to change the branch in the first semester in IIT Roorkee. It all depends on the cgpa you get after the first semester.

A lots of companies come here for the internship offers, for sde roles, management, quant, and also core companies like tata, etc There are basic standard projects that one shoul do, you can also do more projects according to your interest. The stipends range from 15000- 6 lakhs.

After the forth semester, the 4 year B. Tech studets are eligible for campus internship, while after the sixth semester the 5 year integrated course students are eligible for the on campus internship. In the final year, all the students ( 4-year B.Tech as well as 5- year Integrated Course students) are eligible for the placements.Number of companies visit for placements is around 375 this year. The higest package offered is around 2 crores and the average package is around 20LPA. A decent percentage of students gets placed every year. After my degree, I want a good placement, whether it is on campus or off campus.

The fees I have to pay is 2,81,000 INR/ year as I don't come under any scholarship rules, the schlorship rules are majorly on the income basis for general, obc canditate.Also, this fees include tuition fee, hostel fees,, mess fees, field visit charges, and otther maintainance fees. For SC/ST canditate , there is fee waiver. For detailed rules you can always visit the official site of the college. I am in my forth semester and as of now there is no increase in the tuition fee. The tuition fee is 1,00,000/ semester. The total cost of B.Tech would be around 4(281,000) = 11,24,000 INR and the total tuition fees would be around 800,000 INR. I have not taken any campus employment as of now but you can always contact the professors for any research opportunities, there they provide stipends ranging from 5,000- 50000 that all depends.

The campus life of IIT Roorkee is top- notch. The campus here is just awesome. Thomso is the annual cultural fest of IIT Roorkee, Cognizance being the annual technical fest. Thomso is held in the month of October, while Cognizance in held in the month of March. Also E - summit is the annual Entrepreneurship festival of IIT Roorkee organised by the E cell in the month of march itself after National Social Summit anothe social fest of IITR. Library here offers a woide range of books, of every department you want, the library is huge opened till midnight daily, and during exams it is opened all the day. During off exam season, you can always sit in the reading room which is open 24*7. The cllassroms are well equiped with AC, heaters, speaker system. All sports facilities except Kho-Kho, Kabbadi are available also inter IIT sports tournament is held every year. There are wide variety of clubs available from cultural clubs to technical clubs, theseclubs can develop your personality,skills.

The hostels here are not very newly made, so the infrastructure is not upto expectation. The room have one bed, table/ person, one switch board, one ceiling fan, one tubelight, one chair per person. The first year students are given triple sharing rooms, second year students are given double sharing rooms, and from the third year all students get single rooms. The only this that will disappoint you after coming to IITR is the hostels. The newly build hostels are still much better here. The mess food here is average, weekly menu is provided, 2 times chicken a week. The food has wide variety, you get breakfast, lunch, dinner and also snacks( during exams). The hostels room are alloted on the firsst day itself .

I am in IIT Roorkee and as everyone knows the process to get an admission into IIT, I will not elaborate it. Coming to the reservation part, if you are a OBC-NCL candidate, you need to get the OBC-NCL certificate issued by the central government and not the state government.
