Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

BDS is a 4 year long course with 1 year mandatory internship providing theoretical & practical experience of medical sciences & dentistry. It's essential to build a career as a dental surgeon and can opt for 8 different clinical specialties plus multiple non clinical options. It is what you make of it. Nowadays, Dentistry has become quite oversaturated & requires a lot of investment & patience to settle. If money is not an issue or you already have dentists in your family, it could turn out to be a career path full of growth. If not, do some self evaluation and research about it. At the end, it's a matter of personal choice and interests. Almost all the faculties are doctors/dentists themselves with specialisations in the particular subject they teach. Everyone is well qualified & some of them are great teachers as well. Exams did happen timely & as long as you study regularly & gain enough hands on experience, it's be easier to ace university exams.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yearly fees for BDS is 4.5L (subject to changes). you're supposed buy various instruments kits for different academic years and sometimes even more than once. Dental instruments can be very expensive as well as study material. Make sure to consider these as well when you are financing your dental degree. Personally, I did not require financial assistance/loans so I won't comment on it. Campus jobs are not available if it means during the course, maybe available after completion.

Campus Life

3

The campus is great and pretty big. It has a central library, playground, canteen, girls & boys hostel etc. Annual fests are conducted which include lots of games, DJ night, competitions, freshers and cultural events. Reference books and journals are available in the library. Classrooms are big enough to accommodate a batch of 100, projector available, doesn't have A/C or computer based system. Sports events are conducted annually as well. Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton tournaments etc. You can even volunteer to be Class representative or join anti ragging committee during internship. Besides that there are no recreational committees.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

Hostel rooms were not up to mark when I stayed there for 3 years. I eventually left to find an off campus accommodation. I didn't like the food nor the room quality. Only basic facilities available and living standards were questionable. Hopefully, Changes have been/will be made. But besides the fact it's a campus facility and therefore easy to reach college, I wouldn't recommend it.

Admission

Admission process depends upon the marks obtained during NEET UG exam. Cut off isn't that high and depends upon minimum NEET cut off marks of the given year. No personal interviews or tests required for getting admitted. Overall it's quite easy and majorly depends on your NEET UG score.

Course Curriculum Overview:

BDS is the only degree where you start with specialization. You have a limited part to deal with but has diverse clinical cases. One can easily set up a clinic after BDS unlike MBBS . The course also has the involvement of medical subjects for first two years. Each year has two internal exams , one prelims and then a final university exam
