From admission to placements - My college life journey

I took Marketing as my specialization, I am coming from engineering background with a 32 months work experience in operations. I always had an inclination toward understanding business from my college days at NIT Hamirpur and marketing provides you that flexibility. Depending upon the specialization, the faculty-student ratio is around 1 to 50 in most classes. Faculties have done PhDs in their respective field, and the teaching method is very supportive and interactive. They focus a lot on case studies and recent trends in the market. Passing exams in SIBM Pune is not difficult at all, and the teachers are very supportive. We give mid-term and end-term exams in one semester and you don't get much time to prepare for exmas especially in first two semesters.

The college provides summer internships and a good performance in the internship can get you a Pre Placement Offer. Highest stipend was 4.4 lakhs for two months and 3 lakhs was the average. Mostly we get roles in marketing, branding, sales, market research, consulting, product management, project management, HR, business analytics, supply chain. A few good names of companies are - Amazon, Microsoft, Coco-Cola, ITC, HUL, Bajaj Auto, Godrej, Amex, Accenture Strategy, etc. You can download the summer placement report from the website. most projects in marketing were about market research and consumer insights; for operations - majorly, it was about increasing operational efficiency. For HR -compensation, talent management, and anything about improving the existing system.

Our college provides summer placements in first semester and final placements in last semester. Companies visited during 2022 summer placements are Top FMCGs like Colgate, HUL, Asian paints, Pidilite, ITC, TCPL, etc.. and Accenture strategy, BCN, Avalon, Deloitte etc for consulting, companies like Cipla and GSK from pharma industry, Bajaj Auto, Maruti from automobile sector. For final placements profiles offered are - Area sales manager, marketing manager, Product management, consultants, data analysts. Highest package for 2023 was 34 lakhs and average was 26 lakhs. 100% of students got the placements, and I plan to work in a marketing profile after getting this degree.

You will have to pay 6.5 Lacs per semester, hostel and mess fees can be increased up to 10% each year. On average, you will be paying around 26 Lacs, excluding your personal expenses. The college provides a few scholarships like scholarships for IIT graduates, NHFDC scholarships for students with disabilities, NER scholarships for students from the Northeast region, and other international & university scholarships. You can get loans from reputed banks with low-interest rates and without any collateral. The college provides you with opportunities to join remote internships or live projects where you can earn.

Students organize the annual cultural fest 'Transcend' every year in January. The library is full of books and journals of all categories, and they provide a lot of online sources for the research part. Classrooms are neat, clean, and airy. You can access softwares like Bloomberg in the computer Lab. We have grounds for football, cricket, basketball, tennis, volleyball, indoor courts for badminton, TT, squash and pool. You can participate in case competitions conducted by corporates. All the clubs are run by students, and students organize various events throughout the year. You can find and follow all committies and student interest groups on linkedin and instagram.

Each room comes with a bed, table, chair, a separate wardrobe, and an attached washroom. The mess menu changes daily and weekly, offering a variety of meals. Registering for hostels is simple, with rooms allocated randomly based on availability and sequence. You will have to pay 53000 per semester for hostels.

To take this exam, you must have graduated from any recognized university with a minimum of 50% (45% for SC/ST). Candidates appearing for the final year can also apply. You can find the application form, fees, and dates on SIBM Pune's website. Reservation of 15% for SCs, 7.5% for STs, 15% above intake for international students and 3% for differently abled. The admission process starts starts with an exam SNAP. it's safer to score 98.5+ percentile to get a call from SIBM Pune. After receiving call from college, the next process includes group exercise, a written ability test(which is no longer there this year), and a personal interview. Your snap score and the GEPI process each have a 50% weightage in the selection.

We had to participate in a group exercise; a group of 8 students was given a problem statement and a few industries and tools to solve it. Each of us had 2 minutes to prepare and 1 minute to make an opening remark, followed by 8 minutes of group discussion and 2 minutes to conclude. For written ability test - a matrix of 9 words was shown and we need to pick 3 words and write an essay using those words for 15 minutes. In the personal interview, I was asked to introduce myself, and then questions were asked about my work experience in the automobile industry, in the end, I was asked why we should select you, overall it was a great experience. I gave a few mock and prepared HR questions well. I also studied basic questions that can be asked about my under-graduation. For WAT - I used to read newspapers and articles online. Group exercise would not be difficult if you have good presence of mind and general awareness.
