Beyond The Brochure: A Student's Perspective

I chose PGDM programme because this perfectly aligns with my career goals. There is a mentorship programme for all the students were 1 faulty is assigned to 8 students. Most of the faculty holds a Phd. and are industry experienced. We have trimester programme and the exams are mostly based on applications of what is taught in the class.

Bercos offered internship for marketing and finance with a stipend of 15k. Dabur offered YSLP intern with stipend of 15k. McKinley Rice offered HR intern role with a stipend of 30k. There were alot of great opportunities for all the students of the first year.

There is summer internship placements for first year students and final placements for final year students. Students are eligible for SIP from the first semester only and for final placements they have to complete their SIP, minimum 2 live projects and some other conditions too. Some of the companies that visited campus are Infosys, Dabur, Carnival group, PMCPL, Mahindra holidays, Bajaj, Zee media, Tata, Bercos, etc. Almost the whole batch is placed in SIP and final placements. I plan to work as an HR professional after the completion of my degree.

The fee for 2023-24 is 12,99,000 and the hostel fee (AC) is 1,30,000 for girls. There is pre-admission and post-admission scholarships available for students based on merit. There is also extra scholarship for female candidates and wards of defense personnel/martyr. For education loan, institute has tied up with many banks like SBI, BOB, Canara band, IDFC first bank, etc.

Recently Phronesis 13.0 was organized which is the annual cultural fest of IMI Bhubaneswar. Other than these there are events like SPARX, JAZBA, EGADE, TEDX, etc. Every month there is an event either by clubs or committiees. There is a library with alot of course books, novels, magazines, bloomberg terminal, EBSCO access, and much more for students to explore. There are smart classrooms with proper ventilation. There are 3 computer labs and 2 auditoriums. Alot of fun games, competitions, quizes and activities are organized by students only for all. Clubs like colosseum for marketing, fintellects for finance, insignia for HR, cynosure for operations, prayas for CSR and many more are run by students. Committees like Media and public relations, cultural committee, branding committee, placement committee, alumini relations committee and many more are there also run by students only.

The hostel facilities include AC/non-AC rooms with balcony, 24x7 water and electricity, lift, CCTV at each floor, guards in girls hostel, first-aid facility, gym room, game room, TV room, laundry area, 24x7 wifi service, common room at each floor, study room, etc. The menu for mess changes every 2-3 months as per the feedback of students. The registration process is also easy as it can be done after the arrival at the campus. As IMI Bhubaneswar offers full time residential programme so students are offered all the facilities in the premises only.

The admission process was not complex. Exams accepted were CAT, XAT and CMAT. I took CAT 2022 and started applying in colleges as soon as the result was announced. I applied for both IMI-K and IMI-B and got selected for both. The application form was available on the official website of the college. I belong to OBC-NC category so I had to submit the documents for the verification.

After the submission of application form, the next round is group discussion, extempore speaking, essay writing and personal interview. If selected, candidates are informed via email. To prepare for these rounds, one has to be aware about the current affairs. Brushing up the basic concepts of management (if business background) would help. Preparing questions for the interview like 'why pgdm?', 'short and long term career goal' are mandatory.
