Remarks
The college has taught me a lot of new things. There has been serious studying going on and overall, it is fun with friends. I am happy that I got into this college, anyway. It has great faculty and great facilities that I am sure that I'll be getting out as a very good doctor indeed. I have some friends both among my classmates and the seniors, who are all nice to us, by the way. It'll be a long journey but I hope for the best.
Entrance Preview
I got admission in Seema Dental College Hospital through my rank in the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test(NEET). I had prepared for the examination while I was in class 12. It was really tough and there is a lot of competition. Luckily, I managed a good score and a rank, which got me into SDCH. There wasn't any interview process or anything of the kind later. We were directly called for the counselling sessions because the college takes in students only on the rank basis. I always dreamed of becoming a doctor. Joining SDCH is a dream-come-true for me!
Course Curriculum Overview
The medical course that I chose was not what I had expected. Not only was it tough it was far from what I had studied till then. We had an equal number of theory and practical classes. The practical lessons are extremely important for a medical student like me. Luckily, the college has a great lab facility and a 150-bedded hospital. Both these factors added to the great faculty made learning much easier for me. The college constantly strives to better its facilities for treatment of the patients.
Internships Opportunities
For every student, it is compulsory to do a one - year internship in the college. The stipend was 1500 rupees per month. They made cuts from it as per the leaves one take. I am in my first year and the internship isn't for another 3 years. The senior students say that it is the best part of our study. We will get to put all that we have studied into practice. The students do not do any internships other than that.
Placement Experience
College doesn't have that many placements. Most students simply graduate and get jobs on their own or go for post graduation. But every year, the students who score highest marks in BDS or MDS examinations are given a chance to join the college as doctors. But the opportunity is very limited in number.
College Events
We do not have numerous fests or events. Most of the programs are lectures or seminars and so on. The annual fest, ' Jaltarang', of the college is organised by the college management itself. It is a 4-5 day program. everything is arranged on a grand scale and there are sports events, cultural programs and even managerial events all rolled into it.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Per year, I pay 2.15 lakhs as the academic fees. The hostel and mess fee was 1.30 lakhs. It was not really the affordable amount for me. But there was no choice. I am not sure if my parents took a loan for it because they didn't want me to worry about the fee. It was either this or join another course. Also, this was a little better compared to other dental colleges.
Fees and Financial Aid
Till now there has been no scholarship offers made by the college for students. It does provide help to its students in applying for other scholarships outside of college. No, loans are not made available by the college.
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities are more than satisfying. We are given the best class facilities inside the campus to train and keep ourselves fit. The best part about the facilities is the Olympic- standard swimming pool that we have. It is a great one.
Hostel Facilities
I did not stay in the hostel in the campus. I was a Day scholar. However I had friends who stay there. From what I've heard from them, the hostel is all clean and hygienic. They have really good food over there. The menu is decided by the students themselves or the faculty of the college. The rooms are also well-furnished. Once a while, maintenance facilities are also provided. There are single rooms and double sharing rooms available.
Alumni/Alumna
I have no personal knowledge of any alumni meet of the college. But that's because I'm in my first year. There is plenty of time for me to get to know them. So far I have often seen doctors who passed out of this college in seminars and lectures. They visit so to take part in classes and functions.
Exam Structure
At SDCH, we have quarterly examinations. They are not so frequent, but are tough to get through. We also have practical examinations but they are easier than the written examinations for me. I wouldn't call it a chill-culture but we do get time to pursue other interests once a while. I think the hectic schedule is unavoidable if you are studying medicine.
Faculty
All of the teachers have MDS or a PhD degree so it is safe to say that they are well-qualified. Even though I have only been a few months in college, I have already had opportunities to learn from highly professional doctors who visited the campus for occasional guest lectures. It was a great experience for me as a new student to medicine. The teachers are really caring and ready to offer any advice they can. The practical lessons are the ones that I look forward to because they explain things so well that we can learn instantly. There is nothing at all lacking in standards of teaching.
