Remarks
The management is not so bad. Actually the whole of them are supportive of the academics. We get all the support we need from both them and the faculty. I have enjoyed the time spent in college so far. I consider this the most precious time in my student life. So I want to have some fun so that I won't look back and regret in future. This is the best opportunity I have and I will make some memories. I am happy to be here at SDCH. A proud SDCHian!
Entrance Preview
I wrote the usual NEET exam for medical admissions just after my 12th class. The admissions to all medical colleges, for both MBBS and BDS courses, is based on the ranking in the NEET examination. I didn't get to opt MBBS. Then I was called for counselling in SDCH. That is how I came to join this college. After joining I learned more about the college, which I realized was a great one.No, there was no interview after the exam. I want to be a doctor. I have worked hard to be one.
Course Curriculum Overview
At SDCH, what I enjoyed most was the extensive practical lessons. Theory classes are good and interesting but the feeling of learning first hand was something entirely new. There is a Government Hospital with 150 beds for in-house patients and we get live-teaching out there. The laboratories and facilities are great. Even when the practical sessions go on for long, I never get bored.I don't know about the research initiatives going on, but I believe there are improvements made to the general treatment methods.
Internships Opportunities
Mostly, medical students do not get spare time to do any internships. The only one that we get to do is the one-year mandatory internship which is part of our curriculum. The period is very important in our studies because it is when we learn the major lessons of being a doctor. We get to treat the patients, under the supervision of our teachers. The stipend amount is 1500 rupees, per month.
Placement Experience
Right now, there isn't much of placement in college. Sometimes, the college makes an offer to the students who come top in the examinations. It is usually the MDS students who get placed. They are appointed as doctors in the hospital. It is usually the case with most medical colleges and not just SDCH.
College Events
There is limited number opportunities for us to explore out artistic and similar talents during academics. The college's annual fest is one such program, organised solely by the management. It often lasts 4 to 5 Days. In it, we have dance, music, and other artistic programs, sports competitions, and managerial fests altogether. It is one grand event and everyone enjoys the time off from regular class and schedule.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees in the college is 2.15 lakhs per year. The hostel fees, for the rooms and the mess, is a total of 1.30 lakhs in a year. When you compare the sum to fees in other medical colleges, I can't say it is too much. We do get good quality education with all the necessary facilities. It was affordable for me. I availed an educational loan from a bank for the purpose.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college promotes everything that will improve the standards of teaching and learning. We are all encouraged and supported for getting scholarships. Though the college does not provide any scholarships of its own it does help students as much as can to secure one. The students all find loans and other funding sources themselves.
Campus Life
The college has Health Club and a top-class swimming pool. Then, there are all kind of games available. Overall, the facilities are awesome, only we actually don't have too much of free time to enjoy these.
Hostel Facilities
Yes I stay in a hostel. We are free to choose either single room or double sharing rooms. I pay 65000 rupees per semester for the rooms. Yes, there are also PGs outside the college. I have friends who stay there but I don't know about the rate and quality of food there. In the college hostel, we have a common room with TV and the food is also good. Students get to decide the menu and it keeps changing week after week.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni do come to college once a while. I've heard there are many great doctors who passed out of SDCH. They do come to college to give lectures and practicals. But I am in my first year, so I do not have any personal experience of these kinds of interactions.
Exam Structure
We have exams four times a year. Although it is not exactly a chill- culture or anything, the exams doesn't put huge pressure on me. We do have a lot of portions to cover even in a time period of 3 months, but as long as I keep up with the topics on a daily basis, exams are not a thing to worry about.
Faculty
SDCH aims to produce doctors who will serve the society in the best way possible. For that very reason, they have experienced and dedicated teachers there. I love the way they carry on classes, both in classrooms and in the labs. They are all approachable and supportive. I am a first- year students and I have had a lot of help from my teachers in adjusting to the new topics and the modes of study, which is very different from school. A good standard is maintained in teaching, overall.
