Remarks

Personally I feel that the management is tardy and have to buck up.Considering the UG program is new, they are still improving in that aspect. In case you happen to be from a different city and have missed out on taking, say a letter expressing no concerns in you starting your internship in a company, be ready to travel all the way down to Bhubaneshwar to get the letter. The management of a particular department at UG, is reluctant to scan documents and send it to students. Also the hostel wardens can get too nosy for comfort, even when it's not in connection with you breaking any hostel rule.

Entrance Preview

I took X-GMT in 2015, which is an online test. The marks secured were not declared then, only a result confirming our selection or rejection was mailed to us. My 10th and 12th marks were also considered for the admission process. No interviews were conducted in my time (2015-18 batch).

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is at par with the current requirements under the UG course. Starting 2016 batch onwards, the school has introduced the concept of choosing electives. The course is relevant and up to the mark, with necessary quizzes and assignments being conducted to test one's knowledge.

Internships Opportunities

No, there's no internship cell at present, considering that the UG course commenced only 4 years back. So you have to rely on your connections or keep applying to relevant offices well in advance to land an internship. However, the internship is mandatory before the commencement of 3rd year and at the end of the 2nd year- and you're graded on your internship report.

College Events

3.5

The following are the events celebrated at the UG level.. -Padharo:*The freshers program at UG. -Syllable Gig : A cultural event comprising dance, music, nukkad natak, fireless cooking, rangoli competition, poetry slams, and a host of cool games. -Xurbia :The official inter - sports and cultural event at UG level. There's a variety of events lined up like Paintball, Fashion show, music and dance competitions, comedy stand ups and inter college level sports competition. Other events like Holi, Independence day, Lohri, Onam, Gandhi Jayanti etc are also celebrated at the college. Also there are different departments at the UG level lile Commerce, Masscom, sustainability which conduct their individual departments program.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The UG program (3yrs) was currently going at almost 8 lakhs for the 2017-20 batch. The fees can be expected to hike in the coming years, as is the trend. For a graduate degree, it is one of the most expensive in the country, considering it's a non-engineering course.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am not aware of any loan waiver scheme offered in case of outstanding students. But there's scholarship provided to one topper in each respective field. The sponsor changes every year. Last year it was Malaysian Airlines.. who provided around 10000 scholarship. However top 3 students in every respective field are offered direct admission after an interview process to admission in PG programs viz. Rural management, Sustainability, and Urban Governance fields

Campus Life

5

There was 1:2 girls to boys ratio in my batch. The scenario has improved and in the subsequent batches there are almost equal no. of girls and boys in the class. 50% of the batch comprise Domicile students as per government norms. But there's no SC/ST, Christian, sports quota in the college around the time I was a student. Coming to parties, there are frequent birthday celebrations at the hostel reception foyer, there's also a hostel UG day that commenced recently. There is some cultural event or so, every now and then.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel food is inconsistent. There is the UG mess and PG mess, who have separate contractors serving food. Food served is subsidized and decent, better than most of the hostels. There's also other eateries like X-CAFE, Subway, Punjabi Swad, Basant cafe and Frootelite that have recently come up. The UG hostel has a reception area on the ground floor where you can group study or play carom, watch TV etc. You have full liberty to roam in the hostel premises till 10 pm and are expected to return to the hostel by 11 pm in case your working in the library. Boys and girls are not allowed to go to each other's room and are prohibited from drinking, smoking in the college premises.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni of the PG program is vast and very connected. However, the UG students have to buckle up in this regard considering this is the 5th year of the UG Course. However, If an individual is well connected to their seniors and juniors, getting feedback and help from them is generally not a problem. Also, there are different cells like Music, Dance etc, where the seniors generally guide you and you can build your connections.

Exam Structure

There are online quizzes conducted regularly to screen your knowledge, 10-20% of your total marks depends on this. Also presentations are conducted for every subject and semester based exams are conducted. Also there are assignments and projects to ensure that you learn the subject well.

Admission

I had to appear for an online test which is commonly being referred to as X-GMT presently. My 10th and 12th grades were also taken into consideration. However if you want to enrol in the UG program from 2018 onwards, you'll have to take both X-GMT as well as appear for an interview, that is being conducted for admission at multiple locations. 10th and 12th marks may be considered as well.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the faculty who teach the UG students, already teach the MBA students at XIMB.So they have a lot of experience and knowledge in the domain that they teach in, apart from having experience in the relevant industry. As the program has commenced only 4 years, ago, some of the faculty, though very knowledgeable, like in every other institute are a little inadequate, to be honest, in terms of their communication. But overall teachers are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum of B.Com under Sambalpur University covers important subjects like Accounting, Business Law, Economics, Management and Taxation which are essential for future studies and careers in finance or commerce. The structure is simple to follow and helps students build a good base in theory. Semester exams are conducted on time and the difficulty level is moderate. A student who consistently studies can score well without extreme pressure. However, there is a lack of practical exposure such as industry visits, internships or real-world business case studies. Also, subjects related to modern digital business trends like data analytics, advanced Excel, and GST practicals should be included to make students more job-ready. Overall, the curriculum is relevant but needs more updates to match the current professional requirements

Placement Experience:

In our college, final-year students are eligile for campus placements. While i don't recall the specific companies that visited, one of my friends interviewed with Axis Bank and got selected with a package of around 2.4 lakh. The exact percentage of students are placed and details of average or highest packages are unclear to me, but the placements process provides opportunities of those actively seeking jobs. After completing my degree, I plan to pursue an independent career rather that seeking a traditioinal job placement.
