Remarks
College management need to take care of the needs of the students and the college has to be updated in various regard. Placements are the first things that has to be improved. Gender discrimination needs to be eradicated.
Entrance Preview
Since I am not from Tamil Nadu, I got admission through management quota. For students who belong to Tamil Nadu, admission is done on entrance basis. The basic criteria is to have 55% marks in PCM. I chose aeronautical engineering because I was always passionate about doing it. I had qualified for mechanical engineering in Government colleges in Odisha.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is kept up to date. Several electives are available. Electives consists of subjects like management, electronics, aerospace papers and several others which has a great scope for research. Faculties help a lot in this regard. They help the students chose subjects for electives.
Internships Opportunities
My college is not good in this aspect. It does not provide internship but if you have an internship letter, then the college provides the students with on duty leave. However, study tours are organised and students are taken to organizations like ISRO, HAL, DRDO and Taneja industry as far as aeronautical branch is concerned.
Placement Experience
Placements are not up to the mark. Mostly BPOs visit the campus and the packages offered is around 1.5- 2 LPA on an average. Companies like Tech Mahindra, Amazon, etc. visit the campus but they hire students for the position of customer service executives. However, the college has a placement record of 70%. Mostly, start-ups visit the campus but the salary offered is too low.
College Events
National level symposium, seminars are conducted in every semester. Apart from that pongal and Onam is celebrated every year. The name of the college fest is AVATAR which lets students from across the country participate in it. The college also has it's name in the Limca Book of Records for a 72 hours conference. It was an international level conference.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is feasible. When you compare the fees with other colleges, this college has less fees and also supports financially backward students in the form of scholarships. Apart from the annual fees, exam fees has to be paid in every semester. Exam fees depends on the number of subjects you want to write in that semester. It may include backlogs. A fees of Rs. 3000 has to be paid towards the college fest.
Fees and Financial Aid
Both scholarship and loan facilities are provided by the college. Scholarship is provided to financially backward students. Loan is available with ease. Scholarship is also available on the basis of quota.
Campus Life
Campus life is good. It has a very calm and peaceful atmosphere. It has a good gender ratio. It is a very safe place. People from all over India study here. Girls are not given ample opportunities to participate in sports. Sports is held every year. Number of workshops and seminars are conducted. Hostel dorm parties are really enjoyable. There is no ragging. There is no discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, race or religion.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are pretty good. Rooms are good and are available on sharing basis. Four students are accommodated in each room. A.C. rooms are not available. Bathrooms are common for 2nd to 4th year students. First year students have attached bathrooms. Mess is common for three hostels. Food quality is not up to the mark. Sometimes food is insufficient for 1000 students. There is a separate area for washing clothes and there is no laundry service. One needs to was clothes herself. 24×7 water supply is available. For hot water, you need to rely on your own water heaters. Overall, the hostel has the very basic amenities. Staying outside the college premises in not a very good choice because it costs more than the annual hostel fees. Also, since the college is located in the outskirts of the city, it takes time to travel fro the city to the college.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are good and helpful. They used to guide us in every aspect starting from subjects to jobs. They do not rag juniors.
Exam Structure
Since the college is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, the exam structure is decided by the university. Students have to take 3 internal exams before the semester exam. Labs were frequent but the days were not hectic. A good balance was maintained between theory classes and labs. So, usually the days were neither hectic nor very chilled out.
Admission
Admission was through management quota for me. The notification for admission is released around December every year. I had to fill the form online and then attended the counselling where they verified all the documents. Administration was very helpful and supportive. I didn't know the language but they helped me a lot.
Faculty
Every department of the college has around 4-5 Ph.D holders. Remaining faculties have M.Tech. Perfect balance is maintained in the hierarchy of experience. There are faculties who have 20-30 years of experience and there are also faculties who have 3-4 years of experience. Faculties do their best to impart knowledge. Faculties are assigned to each subject on the basis of their specialization.
