Remarks

This course has potential in terms of application but it is not put to professional use. Management is lacking. Important information is not conveyed on time to the students, students are always forced to participate in events they are not interested in or fill surveys using attendance as hostage. They make you sign too many undertakings.

Entrance Preview

I had taken SET Symbiosis Entrance test which is appplicable for many couses in commerce. You can apply in any of the various symbiosis institutions by writing this one SET.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

There are a variety of subjects one studies over the 3 years. The subjects vary every semester. One can learn Marketing, Operating Systems, Networking, accounting (basics), costing, economics (basic), HRM, organisational behaviour, banking, portfolio management, research methodology, mergers and acquisitions, statistics, RDBMS, HTML, JavaScript, PHP, ERP, Python, Java, Animation, Business Modelling, BPMN etc. Couse structure:- Semester 1 to sem 3 All subjects are mandatory From sem 4 to sem 6 Option will be given between IT and Management IT options: object oriented programmimg and system verification and validation, software project practices. Management options: Income Taxation, Portfolio Management, Merger and Aquisitions. Other options from sem 4 to sem 6: Animation, multimedia Ebanking, Financial management. Entrepreneurship, Business Modelling and planning. There will be a research based 3rd year project on a topic of your interest (should be approved) corresponding to the course content for 10 credits. You will be assigned your mentor for the project to guide you. They may or may not have much knowledge in the area of your research.

Internships Opportunities

No our college does not provide internships. Althought it depends on the student and teacher networks and interests to actually organise internships. One of the year IBM had come for internship but there was no student response and lack of interest from the company so it was unsuccessful. You can get internships for a month (max) on your own because you will get only a month or lesser vacation days after you exams. Most time is taken up by preparatory leaves before exams and the long gap between 2 exams.

Placement Experience

2

This college is not the best when it comes to placements for BBA-IT. Companies have a lot of conditions for a candidate like No backlogs, CGPA 7 and above which most students are not able to achieve. So there was no company that came to our campus exclusively. L&T infotech had organised a pooled campus drive where our campus had participated with other colleges. But nothing after that. 5 people were placed as non technical trainees, from our course for a package of 2.48LPA. Also our placement officer had changed, new person had joined so placements were lacking unlike the previous years. Before 2018, we had companies like JustDial, Amazon (technical support /BPO for 2 LPA), HSBC bank coming in for placements for approx 2-3LPA.

College Events

2.5

SICSR has 3 fests/events Unify (like any other college fest), Gunify for computer skill workshops, Chrysallis for entrepreneurship and business. Fests had been cancelled for an year due to losses incurred in the previous year, but the 2018 fest was a succesful one (depends on planning and student interest and commitment). The fests are not large scale and limited to internal students who are the ones who are mostly interested and participation of students from other colleges in dance, street play etc. Fests are funded by brand sponserships that sponserships committe of students shall bring and the amount collected by selling fest passes mostly to other symbiosis institutions and other non symbiosis people who may be interested. It is run by students but teachers head and monitor the progress and the budget, approval etc. There are 2 cells in college ARSH for entrepreneurs and another cell for social work, which are not the most active. Although events can be organised based on the initiative of students and their interest and participation levels. We had a lazy batch but the batch after us organised many events. No attendance exemptions are given for those participating in fests. They are rarely given.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It may cost around 4.5 to 5 lacs for 3 years of tuition. Yearly fees vary from batch to batch. Fee payment is divided into 2 yearly installments to be paid before semester beginning. Year 1 (approx) Rs. 1,52,000 ( to be paid in 2 installments). Year 2 Rs. 1,61,000( to be paid in 2 installments) Year 3 Rs. 153,500( to be paid in 2 installments) I would say it is quite expensive from return on investment point of view because: Placement package is only 2 to 3 LPA You do not learn enough computer skills (only 10% of it) You can learn these skills in more depth in computer coaching centers. Doesn't train you to apply your skills to an actual software projects. Most teachers do not have practical experience implementing these computer skills. They only teach you basics. You figure rest out on your own. They use open source software from word to ERP to teach students, on which they do not incurr much cost except for electricity and computer maintenance, so the 5 lakhs as fees are not justified as thay dont even teach or provide us with expensive software thay are in demand. Unless you have an interest in the subject and spend time developing it outside college hours, it is hard to be confident about your ability in the skills you have learnt.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes education loan can be availed through partner banks. You can check with the college regarding this. I was the recipient of Symbiosis Merit Scholarship. Symbiosis Merit Scholarship is given to the student who scores the highest in the first semester. Scholarship amount is 50% of the semester fees is refunded. For the next semester the selected student must score a CGPA above 8.75 in the next semesters to continue getting the scharship refund. You will not receive the particular semesters scholarship if you do not score above 8.75. Another scholarship offered to female computer students around the world is the Anita Bogra scholarship which Symbiois offers but it has a selection process on an international level.

Campus Life

3.5

In BBA-IT our batch had more number of boys than girls. 1:5 girls to boys is the ratio although you won't realise it till much later. The batch after ours had more number of girls than boys. Hence differs from batch to batch. Students come from different parts of the country, some NRI's an international students study together so you can learn a lot about different places, people, cultures etc. They have different backgrounds and most can financially afford the fees. All kinds of people all accepted by students due to the diversity. You can make different friends depending on how you like to spend your time and your hobbies and interests. Students here are open minded. There have been no controversies regarding politics, religion, gender etc. Most students are respectful towards each other.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel is more harder to obtain for the boys than it is for the girls due to limited seats and sharing the hostel with other symbiosis students from different institutions. The girls hostel is near SICSR but the boys hostel is located 2 KMS away. ELTIS hostel for girls is relatively new compared to the boys so it has got better interiors and enough personal space for each student. One room is shared by 3 girls at each corner of the room. Each room has its own bathroom, washbasin and toilet attached. One personal cupboard, study table, bed, chair for each student. The hostel is clean. Repair facilities are available by filling out just one complaint form. One maid is alloted to each floor to clean all the rooms. The hostel has a 10:30 pm curfew everyday. Hostel fees is Rs. 1,10,000 per annum (hostel+mess food) which is revised every year+Rs. 15000 deposit. There is one gas stove present and 2 refrigerators common to all in the hostel. No electical equipment like iron and kettle are allowed. Laundry facility can be availed with external laundry services that visits the hostel 3 times a week. The hostel also has 2 pugs for dog lovers to play with. Quality of food is average, it meets all the standard requirements occasionally checked by the doctors and health safety inspectors. Mess food may not be the best most of the times but it depends on your tastes and expectations. Many student flats and PG's are available near the college. Rent outside hostel in PG's cost atleast Rs. 1,20,000 per annum or more in PG's outside. Plus food which incurrs extra cost, Rs. 2000 on average for dabbas every month. The living conditions in most PGs outside is often worse. Cramped spaces and water or electricity cuts.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumini are not the most active. Most of our seniors pursue their post graduation after BBA-IT, some are working hard in their jobs. Although we do see some of out Alumini take our final semester project viva as externals. Seniors depend from batch to batch we have observed completely different attitude in different batches. If you make friends with the seniors they are usually very helpful and answer all your questions regarding the course, teachers, and projects and placements. Seniors are very welcoming.

Exam Structure

A student is continiously evaluated. 40% internal marks and 60% external marks. Internal evaluation criteria is set by the subject teacher with a compulsory 20 mark written test. Most teachers generally evaluate you with Ppt presentations, Research paper, written assignment Q&A, surprise tests, Viva, MCQ's, quiz, project based on tool implementation and tool analysis, company analysis real life example corresponding to the subject you are learning. You may have lab practicals for coding subject. Like write a given code in PHP to connect website to database etc. Or make a website using HTML and implement JavaScript in it, make a database for a software system etc. Some can be very creative depending on the faculty. External exam constitutes 60% of our total marks. This the semester end exam that your subject professor sets. If there are two different teachers for the same subject in two different divisions, you may find some surprising questions that may not have been taught in your division. So self study is important and keep up with the progress in the other division.

Admission

Register for SET on the SET website. Choose the various Institutions you want to apply for. Each institute has its own registration fee. Write SET. Each Institute has its own cuttoff If you clear the cuttoff you will be notified in your registered SET account. Keep checking the websites the your account for any notifications. If you clear the cutoff (institutions dont declare their cut off, you will just know if your are invited for the interview.) The next process is called PIWAT (Personal Interview and Written test) They call you to the institute or any venue (if available in your city) to conduct PIWAT. First comez the Written Assessment where a topic is given and you have to write 200-300 words on the topic. Eg: what should the govt do to implement swachh bharat, anything about cricket, caste reservation, riots etc. Candidates are given 15-20 minutes for the written test depending on the institute. Then one goes for their personal interview. Questions may vary depending on your interviewer. When I was interviewing for BBA-IT in SICSR, our topic began from myself, my home city, smart cities and the environmental degradation. While some of my peers got asked about Database management system and some computer concepts if you have taken computers as a subject before.

Faculty

3.5

Most in-house faculty teach computer related subjects, while management subjects are taught by external faculty from other symbiosis institutions. You may get the real good ones if your lucky! Some of the faculty performs exceptionally well when it comes to teaching but some still lack. Few professors will make you write notes in every class while most just use a ppt which they may or may not send to you before exams. There are a few professors who may not teach according to your learning style or level so be prepared to self study from the internet and the library reference material for the whole subject.
