Remarks
The college is overall a good college to study and spend your time at. Although there are some shortcomings, the management was at most of the times, supportive to the students whenever they took some initiative towards the betterment of status quo.
Entrance Preview
I took LEET exam after diploma and got 28th rank in Haryana state. I choose this college because this and YMCA are the best state colleges in Haryana and DCRUST is better than YMCA in terms of campus life.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is standard issued by the government, that is taught in most of the colleges. Although, I feel some courses need to be updated according to today's technology. We had a choice of pretty decent number of electives but there was a minimum requirement of number of students for any elective to be taught.
Internships Opportunities
No. Paid internships are not generally available at undergraduate level. But the course I was in, does mandate summer training. Students generally arrange their training in their own according to their preference and convenience. If some people aren't able to arrange for their trainings, the college helps them in arranging the same.
Placement Experience
Placements are not very good in most of the engineering colleges these days including this college. Although some companies did visit our campus. TCS was the mass recruiter with 23 offers being made to mechanical students with 3.5 LPA. Jindal also recruited few students with 5.5 LPA. A scociety ISHRAE organised a job fair where member students were invited and many companies visited (around 20 of them), with CTC's ranging from 2.5 to 6 LPA. Also, few other companies visited our campus and some also called our students for pool campuses in nearby places. Ala in all, those of us who wanted or needed a job had a decent opportunity to get one.
College Events
We have TECHNOVA, our technical fest every year, where students get to showcase their skills in variety of events. There are events for robotics, for automobile enthusiasts, for designers, almost all of them. This is all student driven. We also celebrate annual cultural fest which is 3 days long and laced with performances by students as well as artists including dance performances, singing, skits, theatre, mimes and we also celebrate many other occasions like Independence Day, a separate fest organised by Civil engineers, republic day etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure according to me is affordable in comparison to the services offered to the students. It is quite less as compared to private institutions. The fees is around 60k for college and another 26k for hostel rent. The fooding charges for mess were 1500-2000 per student per month. All this is under 1.1 Lacs per year which is pretty affordable.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college offers scholarship to students of reserved category as per the norms of Govt. of India. Besides that, 1200 rs per semester scholarship was given to top 10% of students based on academic merit. Student loans are also avaolable from various banks.
Campus Life
As a general principal, gender ratio in Mechanical was poor but the overall gender ratio of the university was 30 to 35%. Campus life is very nice and chilled out, no vehicles are allowed inside campus, there are ample cultural scocieties - folk dance groups, western dance groups, folk singing groups etc. Students are in general tolerant towards ethnicity, race, religion etc. Ragging is strictly prohibited with a fine of upto 2 Lacs. Also, students from various economic strata come to study here.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility was nice, neat & clean and affordable. The rooms were available on single occuancy basis and double sharing basis and were alloted on first come first serve basis. Adequate hostel accomodations are available for all the students. The food served in hostels is of decent quality and better than most of the hostels I have known. It is a cooperative mess and students have a lot of say in case of any discomforts.
Alumni/Alumna
The senior students are pretty helpful. I, had a great deal of guidance from my seniors and found some very good friends in them. The alumni network, I would say is not so strong. We didnot have many interactions with any of our alumni.
Exam Structure
The semester is pretty chilled out with a mix of study and fun. Labs were twice or thrice a week. Talking about the exams, sessional were held twice a semester and we got plenty time to prepare for them. Semester examinations happened during may-june/december. The labs and workshop have adequate infrastructure for learning and developing.
Admission
I applied for the college in online counselling and when selected, I went to the college along with my academic documents, got my documents verified, submitted a copy of them, paid the fee and my admission was confirmed. There was a separate procedure for hostels wherein, we had to fill the form and submit an affidavit for anti-ragging, the fee and it was done. All was over in 4 hours with the SBI located in the campus itself. The administration was pretty supportive through the process.
Faculty
The faculty are all very knowledgeable and highly qualified. However, the degree of interest taken by different faculties in teaching students varied. Some took great interest in teaching all the students, some allowed the students to pursue other things if they wanted, some taught students who actually wanted to learn. Bul all were very supportive if somebody wanted to learn.
