Reality of Msc Physics at SPPU

The Master of Science Physics course is very flexible and well-oriented. The department of physics sppu is well renowned and has collaborations abroad too. Many conferences are held every month in which professors and researchers from foreign universities come here for collaboration and talks. There is a good teacher-student ratio. Ther are about 30-40 faculty working in a different specializations. The faculty here are so good and all are phd holders from good institutes. Exams were too smooth and conducted timely and the declaration of result is so smooth we get from our department only.

In the case of the MSc physics course, there are not so many opportunities for internship from the department level but one can apply for an internship on their own and can get it. Many students got internships in IITs and IISERs from my batch.

As the course is MSc Physics there is not so much campus placement opportunity but yet some ed-tech companies like Byjus come here to take students. Here in the department more focus in on research and to do PhD not on job placement. So think twice before taking this course.

As this is a public state University, fees are not so much. MSc Physics course fees are about 25000 per year and hostel fees are 5000 per year. We get some scholarships too from the department also and from the university also. University scholarship is based on reservation and merit. Department scholarship is purely on merit. I got 10000 in the first semester for being in the top 10 in my batch.

There is an annual fest called Spandan which is held in every department. The students and department together make this fest happen. Also, there are many fests at the university level like international food festivals, etc. There are sports clubs, art and drama club, music and dance clubs and many more. The infrastructure is very new. The Jaykar library is very vast and we get almost all the books we want. If some books are not available, we request them and it comes to the library for issuing. Classrooms are clean and all the departments are covered with a Wi-Fi network. The campus life is so green.

The hostel facility is good as far as the fees are concerned but I think more hostels should be made on the campus as there are many students who have not got admission to any hostel. They are staying outside the campus in PGs and their cost of living is not low as it is in Pune. There is only one mess in the hostel and the quality of food is average. We get non-veg meals once a week. But it is good as mess charges are not so high. One full plate of meals costs you? 40 and it is more than sufficient. The locality outside is urban and IT-oriented. So many students have to live 5 km far from the university to get a good PG. But transportation is very good.

There is an online entrance exam(OEE) for every course you apply for in selected cities. The application form is released in April-May and the exam is held in July. One can find the application form on the official website of Savitribai Phule Pune University Website and can fill the form. After the exam, results are declared on the university website according to reservations. Then the counselling process is started and based on the marks obtained in OEE and reservations we are selected for a given course. We will receive a call and email that our admission is confirmed and document verification will start. After verification, we have to pay the admission fee which is approx 40000. There is a state reservation for people who are from Maharashtra and also who have done there graduation from this University. People from other states are treated as General and unreserved category so they have to score more in the Entrance exam. I want more exam cities should be added for the online exam.
