Remarks
Our college has recently been converted into an IIT so is still developing to meet the IIT standards. Administration is slow and lazy and we really need to speed things up to be an IIT in real sense.
Entrance Preview
I cleared IIT JEE entrance exam in 2015 with AIR - 4169. I was admitted in this college through the counselling procedure called JoSAA. There wasn't any interview process but according to my rank I was pretty much sure that I would land up in this college. I chose civil engineering because there are a lot of civil engineers in my social circle and there is good scope in this field.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is good but it is very hectic. There is appropriate focus on practical learning. Weekly labs are conducted for every course. The institutes promotes research but professors don't take B.Tech students seriously when it comes to research. The students are pretty much on their own. There are elective options for the field in which you choose your project, but there are no elective options for course till 5th semester.
Internships Opportunities
There is an internship season every year in which companies take students of various branches and again, most of these are for coding. Only a small percentage of students get placed. The CTC varies from 1.5 lakh per month to 20,000 per month. However a large no. of students pursue research internships in other colleges such as other IITs or foreign Universities or Research Institutes.
Placement Experience
The placement is good for some branches but it is problematic for our branch. Very less no. of core companies show interest. While some students get placed in core companies, most of those who get placed are in non-core fields such as data analytics, coding, machine learning etc. Around 50-70% students get placed at an average CTC of Rs. 6-7 lakh per annum. However the highest CTC is around 30 lakhs per annum.
College Events
There are two types of events: Departmental festival and college festivals. Major college festivals are Spardha(Sports), Kashiyatra(Cultural) and Technex(Technical). These festival are very big and people from all over the country participate in these. The average footfall is around 20 - 50 thousand and a few famous figures show up at each and every fest. The organization of festivals is good and college authorities are very supportive regarding these festivals.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee of IITs have shot up now but for our batch it is lesser. The fee is Rs. 50950 per semester. The fee becomes bit un affordable for lower middle class but they can get scholarship
Fees and Financial Aid
The college provides various types of scholarships on various criterion. Almost every needy student gets one. I did not avail any scholarship. Getting a loan is extremely easy for IIT students. All banks are very supportive if a student reaches out to them for loan.
Hostel Facilities
I am currently residing in Limbdi hostel. The rooms are medium sized, shared between two people. The main problem is that most of the hostels are very old buildings and white wash may affect your your clothes so most students paint their rooms themselves. The internet is highly unsatisfactory. Their is no charge for hostels but you have to pay Rs. 12000 per semester for mess. Food in the mess is usually very bad and despite all the complaining, it doesn't seem to improve.
Exam Structure
There are only two exams each semester. One mid-semester exam and one end-semester exam. So the schedule of exams is not hectic at all students get plenty time. But labs can be hectic in some semesters. There are some labs which demand too much hard work and leave you totally exhausted but this happens only in few semesters.
Faculty
The faculty here is highly qualified and most of them are highly experienced as well but the main problem is that they don't take their job of teaching seriously. They only focus on their M.Tech/PhD students. However a student can always request for some time and they help if it is possible. But they don't care whether students are attentive in their class are not.
