Remarks
I did not like anything about the college except the fact it was in Mumbai. What I learnt through the city was more than what i learnt through the college. Faculty, campus, benches - everything has to be improved.
Entrance Preview
So, I studied BMM- which did not require any entrance exams. I had scored 74 % in my HSC exam , which was more than enough for the course. People who had gotten percentage as low as 50 were also admitted for the course. I had applied in four different colleges and did not know much about any colleges. But, a friend of my had suggested that this college would be better because this is located between Goregaon and Malad and would be easy for me to travel.
Course Curriculum Overview
It is very poor. It does not actually give any opportunity for exportation. I was not asked to read any literature, even though I had a paper on literature. The course did not seem to be designed for an under-grad student - It seemed as though the people who set the curriculum had underestimated the students' capacity. The project works done were just a mere completion rather than learning. The only thing I am glad of learning is the newspaper making which came in the third year.
Internships Opportunities
It is not actually a big college. There were a few job-fair kinda programs but no one was interested because the companies which came over had much to do with management or commerce degree holder rather than the media students.
Placement Experience
I dont think I can answer that since I had no idea what was going on with the campus interviews. And also no one from mass media course was actually benefited through the job fair. I was studying journalism and did not find any news media organisation offering jobs or internships through the placement programs in college. The bmm course was introduced to the college just a few years before I had joined , so , naturally the job openings were less.
College Events
We had different clubs- literary club and likes. Also , we have a big 'DALMIA FEST'-an inter-college festival - which will include various cultural programs. The fest usually goes for more than two days and a very popular personality would be called as a chief guest. A various lot of days like 'rose day', 'tie day', 'saree day' and such are also observed for which prizes are also distributed.
Fee Structure And Facilities
the fees structure is very feasible. It cost around 60,000 rupees for the whole course. First year I had to pay 20,000 rupees. Second year 20,000 and third year I paid somewhere around 17 or 18 thousand is what I remember. Also, we had a SEED - a personality developing program - for which 2000 rupees was charged in the first and second years. When the college went on IVs it was charged separately.
Fees and Financial Aid
I do not know of any scholarship or loan facility offered by the college for self-finance courses. But I think the fees structure of the non-self-finance courses were very less.
Campus Life
I think the number of boys in the college is actually higher than the number of girls in the college. Parties - Ofcourse there parties. Fresher's party, Prom night and such organised by the Student council. The Student Council is a student body. I felt that the college had Hindutva in its heart. I am not sure of the economic status of the college since people from all walks of life studied in the college. The college people from almost all religions, ethnicity including Buddhism. I am not sure about sexual orientation because we were not open about that yet and the students of the college was mildly homophobic. Girls were not usually encouraged to join sports or athletics - Because I could only see boys in the playground or the gymkhana.
Hostel Facilities
The college did not have a hostel of its own. The average rent of a girls' PG would be around 5000 rupees. You also had to pay the security deposit. You can choose between shared or private rooms. Since the college is in Malad, you can live around the area. Or you can choose to live anywhere between Churchgate to Bhayender. I would not go after bhayender because, travelling would become hectic, then. Local trains will help. The college has a very good but small canteen - the food was awesome.
Alumni/Alumna
The college seniors were not much use to me. Since this is Mumbai we are talking about it was all about 'masti' - not only for the first two years but for all the three years.
Exam Structure
The exams were not hectic. We enjoyed throughout the semester and ended up studying only during the examination. Semester 5 and 6 were the only semesters which were taken seriously because they were board exams. And we were often given project works and assignments for internal exam rather than a long written exam,so we were tired only because of the project work. were made into teams - which is what made the college life a horrible dream. Not everyone in a team is very understanding and sensible. It is not easy to work in teams for a project.
Admission
I had gotten the application form from the college by the end of May and filled out my details and produced them along with my documents such as my birth certificate, HSC mark sheet, address proof etc., Since I was not in Mumbai by then, I got to know through my friend that my name has been mentioned in the notification which was released by the second or first week of June. I traveled to Mumbai by third week of June and my classes started by the end of June or the beginning of July. I did not feel nervous during the first day of the college - the crowd made myself understand that they are simple people, too. Since, it was two years ago, I do not remember the details completely- But, I really hope the above given details are right.
Faculty
Most of them are plain stupid. But there were times when we were taught by an intelligent professor. That doesnt mean we had good professors. Everyone was so keen about doing propaganda about their political stand. The lecture timings were not stable.Lectures tend to cancel lectures without informing the students. Sometimes, we were handled as though we were school kids. Sometimes, the teacher was not at all interested in teaching and had chosen this only because she/he had no other option. Sometimes, the teacher had no idea what was going on in the class. Sometimes, the teacher yelled and reduced our marks because she or he is biased.
