Tripathy's Review On NIT Trichy, Tiruchirappalli

NIT Trichy is the best platform to maintain a balance between student's day to day activities. The institute is located in a campus of 800 acres and has 16 departments covering engineering, applied sciences, humanities, and management programs with a strong emphasis on scientific and technological education and research. There is a hospital inside the campus, sports facilities are at par, an SBI bank, a post office is on the campus. The classrooms are well equipped and e-learning are also given emphasis. I'm overwhelmed to see the excitement and dedication of all the students, be it academic stuff or sports stuff or college-fests. They all actively and eagerly participate in everything and it's one of my college's trademark.

To get enrolled myself in PG course in NIT Trichy I had to appear for GATE exam conducted online. I qualified in my GATE exam in my UG specialization paper and applied for the PG course here in NIT Trichy. Both the no. of academic projects and placement statistics are remarkable and thus after consulting with the faculties and my project guides I took the decision to join the PG course in NIT Trichy. There was no interview process and only based on merit list which was obtained from the GATE score was used for admission.

My current PG specialisation paper is Industrial Metallurgy. The course plan is so perfect that it makes us familiar with the practical approaches, difficulties, facilities available in industries now-a-days. Besides the classroom activities also arrangements are done for industrial visits, guest lectures from reputed organisations like BHEL, ISRO, IGCAR etc. to keep the students up to date on present day technologies. Thus, the course focuses on the practical learning quite suitably and makes students industrially and technically fit. The institute has it's center of excellence in nanotechnology and corrosion engineering. The labs are well funded and managed with the help of various prestigious organisations and societies like DST etc. Some of very sophisticated facilities like spark plasma sintering machine, Seebeck coefficient measurement machine facilities are available here along with almost every types of facilities used for characterization. The students used to present in international conferences also.

Yes the college provides internships as it is collaborated with some R&D centers and educational institutes across India and abroad. The stipend varies from 10000-40000 in indian rupees.

The placement scenario is quite remarkable. Some departments are registering 100% placements from last 4 years. Most of them are above 95% and few departments are also there where the placements are around 70%. The highest package also goes upto 40LPA in cases. Some of major companies are Microsoft, Renault-Nissan, Samsung, HP, L&T, Amazon, Uber etc. Lots of MNCs also visit campus for recruitment. The average package is 7 LPA.

All departments organize their respective branch fests every year. Besides cultural fests like FESTEMBER, litfest like NITTfest and techinal fest like Pragyan are organised every year and these fests have already set a footprint. The turn out is around 15000 from 500+ colleges across India. Even Festember has own various prizes in national level owing to its flawless management.

Rounding off, a sum of 65000 is taken per semester including admission fees and hostel & mess fees. The food quality is awesome and the persons in charge of mess and hostels always look towards constant development with the feedback.

Yes there are lots of scholarship schemes are available for the needy ones. Apart from the college level, national level and state level scholarships there is also an initiative by college alumni association which is also offering scholarships for students. Though I'm not availing any of these scholarships still the scholarship provision in the college is at its best.

NIT Trichy is a place where all domains of societies are present and they all help exploring the bright young student to get them to their dream. There are scientific societies, sports clubs, literary clubs, adventure clubs, social service clubs, TEDx club, entrepreneurship clubs etc.etc. and they all stay very active to explore the hidden talents by letting them exposed to the outside world with their talent. I'm so excited to say, NIT Trichy is best institute which keeps balance in my academic and non-academic life.

Yes I'm currently staying in single room hostel. There are also options available for sharing rooms. Basically freshers are given sharing rooms whereas after 1 year they are allotted in single rooms. The room size is well balanced depending upon sharing or single room. Rooms are highly spacious. Yes, here PG is also available. An Institute guest house is there inside college premises. For one person and for one whole day they charge 300 rupees. The food quality is awesome as I've mentioned earlier.

There is a separate alumni association in our college. They interact with the students and faculties and discuss about further improvements that can be expected or should be incurred either in curricular or extra-curricular activities. The association even provide scholarship. They all mentally and financially contribute to the college.

The lab classes are there once a week. Besides the lab class as per academic curriculum the concerned faculties also give an oral session and demonstration on the other facilities available which are not mentioned in the academic curriculum. It's fact we enjoy a lot getting to know about all the facilities and sometimes we're also allowed to operate certain machines. The exams are not done on a daily basis, but it's always a balance between our self-study and time gap. Thus nobody feels tired of completing the tasks rather students stay up to date with the ongoing proceedings. I won't say it a chill nature rather it is more of a like focused nature.

There are highly qualifies faculties and most of them have completed their doctorate. Some faculties who've completed PostDoc are also part of the institute. All the faculties are also highly experienced. The faculties are so interactive and allow the students to approach them anytime for any kind of query let it be regarding academic or mentorship. They show the same enthusiasm when coming to any organising activities like cultural functions, symposiums, international conferences and they guide the students in best way. While coming to classroom activities the level of teaching is best, and besides teaching they also give tasks like assignments, mini projects. Both blackboard learning and e-learning are practised here. Quiz tests and theoritical tests are conducted time to time.
