Gather together with a huge crowd remembering college days, fun & memories. Thanks to all. We appreciate what SBHS has given to us when I see students from other schools joining professional courses these days. The practical exposure given to us was awesome. I owe my being to this college.

Internships Opportunities

During my time, there was no program as such. There were no placement in my college and we never had an internship program back then. I have no idea about what's happening in college today nor I'm aware of the internship programs.

Placement Experience

4

In 2011 , three students of M.Com got placement South Indian Bank. In 2010 3 students got placement in State Bank of Travancore, Dhanalakshami Bank and ING Vysya Bank. On an Average 20 % of our students become Chartered Accountants, 40 % select the management field and 20 % become teachers. Others get self employed or go- abroad.Though campus interviews are conducted by some companies, it will be appropriate if a placement cell can be formally constituted in the college to give a thrust in this direction.

College Events

3.5

Commerce Association organised two day Intercollegiate commerce fest causerie on 12th and 13th of January 2012, with prize money worth Rs.1,00,000/-. It was the 11th edition of Causerie & 1st edition of junior causerie. Rs.3,00,000/- was the total budget of the programme. Mr. Tom Mathews , Senior Manager Life Insurance Corporation Inagurated the programme .440 participants from 42 colleges from various parts of south India participated in 7 events on the first day of the fest. 70 participants from 17 Higher secondary schools participated in 3 events on the second day of the fest. KG College, Pampady and Assumption College, Changanacherry shared the ever rolling trophy for the champions. 2011-11-14 Commerce Association organized “Market watch “a virtual stock market game designed to create investment awareness and at the same time provide a source of entertainment with simulated stock market trading. The game is an opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade and master the world of investing in stocks and equity by presenting a virtual stock market challenge on Market watch. Every student gets a notional money of Rs1,00,000/- to invest in a virtual stock exchange. By simulating a live stock market the user gets to choose the stocks, buy/sell them, and maintain a stock portfolio. Individual portfolios are reviewed and if one user gains are better than the others he stands a chance to win the prize.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The college fees were very feasible and were not expensive at all. It was INR 2500/- during my time and I'm not aware of today's fee structure there. We had to pay separate fees for examination and library. The fee structure was feasible for a middle class person but was not for a poor.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college gives a number of Awards and Scholarships. The scholarships are given on the basis of academic performance and merit cum means. Those who are eligible for scholarships under merit cum means basis are identified after careful evaluation. Scholarships and prizes on the basis of academic performance is an impetus for them to perform well in the examinations. There are a number of welfare schemes operating in the college e.g. endowment scholarships for bright students. There are welfare schemes for the employees e.g. loans are sanctioned by S.B. College Employees' Credit Co-operative Ltd. for permanent employees. In addition, there is Food Loan facility & loan against General Provident Fund.

Campus Life

3

Different clubs and societies work under the supervision of the teachers, prominent among them being Youth Festival and Shishirotsava Committee, Debate Club, Magazine & Nature club. Though there is no separate employment cell in the college, at times, the requisition from various local industries for a list of suitable candidates is responded. Isolated campus interviews, too, had been done for the students of Computer Sc. & Botany departments. It is a feather in the cap of the college that it has been identified as a centre by the Govt. of Maharashtra to run 'Vidynan Manch' for bright school students since 1980. A brief interaction with the students reflected that the students have fairly good communication skills, appreciate and abide by college discipline and have a reasonable level of alertness and comprehension. The NSS department working under two programme officers is doing commendable work. Many noble programmes have been taken up in the past three years like blood donation camps, aids awareness, spread of literacy, construction of a link road to a village & drainage system, training youth for village industry, formation of co-operative milk scheme with villagers & preparation of a documentary on Kumbhephal activities. A good number of NCC cadets have been selected for ' Basic Leadership Camps' each year. In the year 1998-99, three cadets got selected for Republic Day Parade at New Delhi.Ample greenery with trees adorning the sideways is found, though it needs the attention of the Botany department and the authorities for proper care and nurture.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are separate hostels on the campus with 41 students residing out of which 25 are boys & 16 girls. Govt. policies on reservation is followed in hostel admissions. There is a department of Physical Education which provides coaching in outdoor & indoor games. The sports activities will get a great boost on the completion of a gymnasium on the campus. The college canteen calls for a face lift though it is providing the essential services. The college has raised sufficient funds under the scheme of self-financing courses for their smooth running.

I am the part of NSS unit .. there I am genuinely learning and enjoying.. But I have figured out that for leo and Rotract they won't give credits to fy degree college students so I feel they should include first-year UGs as well. They are not giving opportunities to junior college students so I feel they junior college students should also have access to be part of different clubs and curriculums

B.com is base of all the course in commerce. And we also can do any other jobs to increase our experience in practical world because in other courses we are not able to get practical experience which is very important. The curriculum is too good as everything is about real world. There is no need to study something which is irrelevant. Everything is good but, I want that as our college opens early at 7am so library should also be open at the same time. Because many times when lectures are cancelled we just waste our time as library opens at 9am.

I was a student of KJ Somaiya College of Arts & Commerce. College is autonomus now and the exams paper are set by college & not university. Faculty is good. Campus is excellent. Once you leave the college, you will miss everything from lectures, 4 ways, maggi house, management canteen, IV etc. Management students do have placements in good companies. (BMS, BBI, BFM, BAF) So, in short it is a good college with decent students & faculty.
