Remarks
Anyone who has passed the 10th examination or above is eligible for the course. One has to pass the PAT examination and get the cut-off marks according to his/her caste. I didn't avail of any reservation benefits but SC/ST castes do get some relaxation. The admission process can be held in different venues instead of one to facilitate better functioning of the overall process.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course as I was interested in electrical engineering. The ratio of the faculty: student would be around 1:50 The faculty was well qualified but some of them still stick to the orthodox method which is no fun sometimes. Also, a plus for you if you speak or at least understand Bengali, as it is the most commonly used language on campus. Exams were held in a timely and it was not that hard to pass the examination. However, getting good marks is a different story.
Fees and Financial Aid
Expect a fee hike of 500-1000 per sem. Plus there's a collection during school-organised events and freshers' parties. I personally didn't avail of any scholarship but students get scholarships at least once after filling out the requisite paperwork.
Campus Life
The annual fest is held once a year around the first week of February. You can get subject-related books in the library which you have to return at the end of the semester or else you'll not be given a mark sheet at the end. The classroom lacks basic amenities. Sports and extracurricular activities are non-existent. As far as I know, I knew nothing of any social group or clubs for students run by students.
Hostel Facilities
2-4 beds in a small room with poor lighting and hygiene. The meal is something which will remind you of your home quite often. The worst case is drinking water. Primitive filters with prehistoric candles are used to filter the water pumped by a motor. The registration process is simple. You simply have to tell the hostel warden(who is often one of the faculties) and he'll arrange for the rest. It's affordable compared to other options. Many PGs can be found locally. Since I can't vouch for everyone, you have to check their condition in person.
