Mallika's Review On Panjab University - [PU], Chandigarh

When I got admission there, there was no entrance test for the course. Admission was on the basis of class 12 marks. But if anybody wants to do b.sc and m.sc in physics only then there was a test called chandigarh CET.

Course curriculum was very good. As I have done masters in physics and electronics so I studied subjects related to physics as well as electronics. In B.sc I hv studied vibration and waves,Classical mechanics,electricity and magnetism, analog electronics nuclear physics, particle physics,atomic and molecular physics and many more.

I didnt get any stipend as I just passed M.sc. If I would have cleared the ugc net exam or pu phd exam then I can get enroll for phd and able to get stipend. Otherwise at master level no one get the stipend. No companies visit in the department as our is an academic course not a technical one.

No placements and no jobs until masters. But if someone has qualified the csir ugc net or pu phd exam then only he or she can do phd. But still no placements. After phd also candidates have to struggle for their jobs.

Our department celebrated each and every festival whether it is a fresher party,annual function, lohri, holi, diwAli. Moreover there were science congress, chescon, symposiums, seminars, conferences, debate, quiz, poster making contest and many more.

Fee structure for b.sc physics is approx 5000-6000 per year whereas for physics and electronics 45000-55000. Fee strusture for m.sc physics is approx 6000-7000 and for m.sc phyaics and electronics approx 60000-65000. As physics and electronics is a self financed course.

No scholarship is given upto masters level. But pu phd exam( which is given after masters )Qualified students get stipend of about 15000-20000 per month ( best to my knowledge) moreover who qualify csir net junior research fellowship the get nearly 25000 per month.

Coming to the exam structure we had the semester system. Every year Our session started from july and in october there were mid term tests of 15 marks and then the semester exams in december. And next semester started from january and mid terms in march after that semester exams in may. Each subject has weightage of 75 marks out of which 15 for mid term and 60 for sem exams. And same followed for every year.

The faculty is highly qualified. They always tried to give us the appropriate knowledge. We had studied each and every subject from the professors who are expert in that subject and we gained a lot from them. Every professor have published a lot many research papers and there. Are a large no. Of research scholars in physics department.
