Remarks
To be eligible, one has to be either in the final year of their UG or should have passed out in a valid course from a recognized university/board. The application form is easily available on the university's official website and the form is easy to fill. Before filling the university form, one is required to have successfully registered for the NMAT by GMAC exam and use the registration ID generated there, to fill the university form of NMIMS. The cut-off for the MBA core and MBA HR program at NMIMS Mumbai campus was a score of 236 or more, with a sectional cut-off of all 3 sections being 76 minimum. The overall admission process is smooth, the only uncertainty being the lack of information on anticipated cut-off for the forthcoming year, as each year cut-offs are revised and no one can accurately predict, the same. After clearing the cut-offs, there is 1 round conducted in the same day, wherein a written ability test is conducted followed by a personal interview (questions are easy)
Course Curriculum Overview
I took up MBA HR since it was a field I was interested in and had done internships also, in. The HR course provided by NMIMS Mumbai is amongst the most robust in the country. The faculty-student ratio is 60:1, approximately. The teachers are highly experienced and follow a case-study method of explanation of concepts, which is more interesting than the conventional root-learning methods. Term exams have been conducted online, very smoothly with moderate difficulty.
Internships Opportunities
The internship period is 2 months, in the month of April and May. The placement process for the same starts with the offset of the 2nd trimester in September, itself, and goes on till late December to early January (by when all students generally get placed). The highest stipend for MBA Core was 3 lakhs and the average was 1.2 lakhs. For MBA HR it was 2 lakhs highest and average 1 lakhs. 31% of recruiters are in IT Sector, 25% BFSI, 18% FMCG, 13% conglomerates, 8% Pharmaceuticals, 5% Logistics. Around 30 recruiters came for MBA HR summer internships last year.
Placement Experience
Our placement committee ensures 100% placement of all students for both finals and summer internships. Over 200 recruiters come every year. The MBA core program had the highest package of 34.72 LPA, and the MBA HR program had 21 LPA. The average package for MBA Core is 18.45 LPA and 15.09 LPA for MBA HR. Around 25% of students secure PPO's every year, on average. Summer placements are also excellent. The highest for MBA Core was 3 Lakhs and 2 Lakhs for MBA HR, for a 2-month long internship. Recruiters offer various roles in Finance, marketing, HR, Pharma, etc and range from FMCG giants, BFSI, IT, Pharmaceuticals, etc. Opportunity to take part in multiple national and international level competitions is also there, such as L'Oreal Brandstorm, CANVAS by Asian Paints, The Tata Imagination challenge, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees have been on similar levels only. Rs 11 Lakh per year is the approximate figure. The ROI is good considering the placements are as good as the fees. There are merit scholarships offered to top-performing candidates who appear on the dean's list. The college provides 100% placements for summer internships as well as final placements. There are ample corporate projects also that students can enroll for on the campus jobs to enhance their skills.
Campus Life
There are several cells, clubs and committees, that one can join. We are allowed to join a maximum of 1 core cell and no limit on interest clubs. There are events, fests every couple of months, organized by the cells and clubs where students across SBM NMIMS can participate. Euphoria, the biggest event organized by the cultural cell Nepathya happens around Jan-feb every year. Our events are sometimes attended by celebrities, as well. Even though our classes are online nowadays, as are all events, but the grandeur and scale have remained, intact. We have clubs for people of all interests ranging from Dance, music, sports, events, fashion, dramatics, etc to cells for academic interests from finance, to HR to operations, etc.
Interview Experience
There is only a written ability test and personal interview to get into NMIMS. These 2 are conducted on 1 day itself, which will be communicated after declaration of cut offs and shortlists, well in advance. The written ability test is on a general topic which is easy to write, but only 20 minutes are given, so it is important to time yourself. The interview questions were mostly of the kind 'tell me about yourself', 'why MBA?', etc. There were a couple of technical questions based on the academic background of the student. Since I did B,com (h), I was asked a coule of questions on statistics about the properties and limitations of mean as a measure of central tendancy.
