Entrance Preview
I was always interested in art and sketching in school, which in turn led to an assumption to many close relatives of mine, including my parents, that I will want to surely pursue a career in fine arts or something. My mom surfed more on the internet, and learnt about a design career, which is a combination of common other careers like engineering, architecture and commercial arts.
Course Curriculum Overview
Design colleges never have a fixed course structure, and so is MIT Design. We are given a timetable in the first week of college which is valid for one semester. The courses are lined up in a very different way, unlike other non-similar colleges. We have weekly courses, like for example, a course starts on Monday and gets over on the next Monday. The structure is perfectly managed by the institute in terms of learning.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, MIT Institute of Design provides two types of Internships. After our 3rd year gets over, we are supposed to officially intern for 2 months, to get an experience of how the outside world works, so that it isn't very difficult for us to work for 6 months later, as the graduation project internship. For the 2 months internship, we need a portfolio online and a resume.
College Events
The first thing to list in here is the home event of MIT ID, which is names as '1874' currently, and was named as 'Quasar' before a few years. This event is a huge and grand one, and we have attendees too. Games are played for 2 whole days and event concludes with a gathering of students, parents and relatives to watch our cultural program. Starting from the decisions, everything is done by the students of the institute.
Fee Structure And Facilities
These fees are extremely expensive and they vary every year. The fee structure is as follows Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Fees-3,000/-, Tuition Fees-3,20,000/-, Development Fees (one time)-30,000/-, Student Activity Fees (per year)-5,000/-, Hostel Charges (Twin sharing rooms)-72,500/-, Hostel Security Deposit -One Time (Refundable)-5,000/-, Mess Charges-60,500/-.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college offers scholarship to a few students who are needy of it. Every year, there are 5 students selected from a batch of 150 students. There are two criterias for students to avail a scholarship. The selection of students depends on the parents annual income and the student's way of talking and working ability. If he gets selected through the interview round, then he surely avails a scholarship.
Campus Life
MIT Loni Kalbhor is a humongous campus! There are a lot of colleges dwelling in this habitat. Somehow, there is no connect of us with students of all these colleges. Females here are more than males, contributing to a 70-30 % ratio. The connect between the boys and girls is good, as we are taught in the same classroom, but we are not allowed to enter each other's hostels.
Exam Structure
This is quite surprising, but we do not have any theoretical exams. There is an exam on just one day for an hour or so, which we call as a jury. We have present our work to some authorities with maximum involvement in that particular time slot. Like I said, there are courses allotted for different weeks and are graded after the course ends.
Admission
There are 3 main competitive layers of the entrance exam. The first one is theoretical, and for that, many students including me were attending classes. I attended a class every weekend for two years which helped me pass the first theoretical exam of MIT institute of Design. After getting a call from the Institute about my selection, I got ready for my next exam, which was the Studio test.
Faculty
Being a design college, faculty here belongs to different career backgrounds. Most of the faculty is an alumni of National Institute of Design. Industrial design faculty is mostly an engineer or an architect while communication design faculty is mostly an artist. When a new course starts, the faculty who is assigned to take up this course is all set to start a brief for the course on the first day.
