Remarks
The admission process for TAPMI was quite elaborative. the minimum eligibility criteria were 50% in graduation. For people with work experience of more than 20 months and less than 20 months, the selection criteria vary. For people with less than 20 months, there were minimum eligibility exam scores (CAT & XAT-85 percentile, GMAT-630) as well as marks obtained in 10th, 12th, and graduation (60% in each]. I was part of this category only. For people with more than 20 months of experience, there was a profile shortlisting, An SOP was also required to be submitted by these students. A student could apply to one or more programs. I applied to colleges like NMIMS and Symbiosis. I got selected for NMIMS Bangalore and SIBM Bangalore but opted for TAPMI as my final choice. I did not avail any quota for admission anywhere. The admission process was exhaustive and consisted of rounds of MGD that are Moderated Group Discussion, Personal Interview, and an English Proficiency Test (EPT).
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose PGDM General, though I was shortlisted for PGDM- BKFS (Banking and Financial Services) too. I opted for this because I did want to explore multiple domains in the first year of the Programme and then decide which area to specialize in. I applied for BKFS considering a bit of inclination in the finance domain due to past experience. Also PGDM General allows us to opt for Majors and Minors both in our second year and we get to choose from a number of options. The faculty-student ratio is 1:3. All faculty are highly qualified. Many are PHDs and are also actively involved in research and publishing papers. the teaching pedagogy at TAPMI is highly industry-relevant and experiential. Also, all courses in the program follow case-based teaching methods. Exams happen on a frequent and continuous basis and are evaluated on time as well. They are held as Part A and B in each trimester. Exams are also case-based, thus if one is well versed with concepts, one will be able to sail through.
Internships Opportunities
Some companies that visit TAPMI for Summer Internship Programme (SIP) are Capgemini, Gartner, NESTLE, Tata Capital, Deloitte, etc. The average stipend for the 2020-2022 batch was INR 24,120 and the highest stipend was INR 1, 20,000 per month. Some profiles offered included sales and Marketing Intern, Product Management Intern, Investment Associate Intern, Data Analytics Intern, etc.
Placement Experience
TAPMI offers 100% placements for its students for both finals as well as summer internships (SIP). Summer Internships start from the 2nd month of Trimester 1 whereas campus placements start in Term 4. For final placements of 2019-21, the Average package offered was INR 11.2 lakhs per annum, whereas the highest was 25 lakhs per annum. The average for the top 50 students of the batch was INR 15.5 lakhs per annum. Some companies that come for final placements are Accenture, Airtel Payments Bank, Bajaj Finserv, CRISIL, HDFC, Godrej, TVS, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Program fees include both tuition fee as well as hostel fees, the former is INR 7.55 lakhs per year and the latter is INR 1.55 lakhs and INR 1.65 lakhs in the 2 years respectively. Tapmi also offers many scholarships to its students. A total of INR 2.9 crores is offered altogether for aspiring students. Around 50 students receive scholarships worth INR 2.26 crores under the Dr. Ramdas Pai Merit Scholarship Scheme. There are 4 categories under this scheme also differing in terms of eligibility scores in entrance exams like CAT, XAT, and GMAT. The job is yet to be received by me.
Campus Life
TAPMI has a very active student life as its a 1005 residential program. Many committees have their fests. Some of these are DISHA-management Conclave by Corporate Engagement Team, FinVisor-an inter-college competition by ArthNivesh, Atharva-The Annual Flagship B-school fest of TAPMI, just to name a few. Other clubs and committees run by students are at TAPMI are BRATs (biking, running, and trekking), Alumni Relations Committee, Samnidhy, Competitions Committee, Book Club, Finance Forum, etc. Classrooms are air-conditioned with an executive seating capacity of 60-90 students, well designed for interactive participation. The Knowledge Centre at TAPMI has both the Library and the Computer Lab. Library has an extensive print and electronic resources supported well by technology along with an informed and award-winning staff.
Hostel Facilities
There are 5 hostel blocks on the campus. Each room has an attached bathroom and an all-time hot water facility supported by solar heating. All hostels have a lift as well as Wi-Fi facilities. The meal is provided by a number of vendors and the variety available is good.
Interview Experience
Yes, I faced Group Discussion, interviews as well as a Written Test. GD topics were current topics and general topics. These included Gig economy, New Education Policy, Corruption, etc. Interview questions were about past experience as well as several behavioral questions were there. In case one has applied to multiple programs, interviews will be held separately for those programs, however by the same panel. Specialized programs did test one on domain-specific knowledge as well. The test was an English proficiency test. It had basic English questions testing us on reading, writing, and even listening skills. I prepared for them by updating my current affairs (watching videos, reading newspapers, etc.) and practicing mock GDs and interviews.
