MBA at SRM

Sri Ramaswamy Memorial Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) College of Management is a renowned management school in Chennai and the state of TamilNadu. It was found approximately three and a half decades back and since then, it has emerged as an alternative for those who were denied the opportunity to get admitted in more reputed business schools.Admission is offered on the basis of candidate's performance in the CAT/TANCET/XAT/MAT/GMAT/NMAT/CMAT/SRMJEE-M exam and marks in undergrads.

The course is taught over a period of two years and four semesters. The core courses form the substance of the first year of education, while the electives enable specialization third semester onwards. The low faculty student ratio facilitated personalized mentoring. They have read and researched in the best institutions around the country.Pedagogies followed included the case-based study, corporate role play, groupwork and individual assignments and internship. The term exams were organized thrice in a year. These weren't very difficult but demanded continuous attention.

Internships are a compulsory part of the curriculum and have to be underwent for a duration of six weeks in the summer vacations. Report is to be made, which is assessed internally and also entails a viva-based examination. Few have a stipend, which is usually possible only if one has an off-campus opportunity.

The average package offered to our batch stood at a Rs 5.50 LPA, while the highest package provided was pegged at Rs 41.60 LPA. The main recruiting domains included sales and marketing. Other sectors were represented as well.Notable companies that recruited from the campus included the likes of Microsoft, CTS, TCS, HashedIn and Siemens. I got into an analyst's profile at a reputed firm, which was a jumpstart for my career, especially with the pandemic disrupting the market soon, in hindsight.

The total fee for the course was approximately Rs 7.50 lakhs, excluding mess and the hostel charges. Scholarships can be availed from the schemes which are run by the Government of TamilNadu, as well as the ones provided by the college on the basis of need and merit. Various education loans can be availed in order to settle the expenses from nationalized banks like the State Bank of India (SBI).

"Aaruush" is the annual management fest of our college, while "Milan" is the cultural fest. These are organized with a lot of enthusiasm, with a large footfall of participants and sees business stalwarts and extraordinary speakers from the domain of management. The hullabaloo is pleasant and looked forward to by the current students.Various student-run clubs and organizations enabled us to follow our extracurricular interests and to learn useful skills like collaboration, management and competition. It also instills camaraderie between seniors and juniors.The library has a rich collection of books, research, journals and digital resources, which makes it a center for students, researchers and teachers alike. The classrooms are spacious and have an atmosphere suitable for learning.

The total hostel and mess fee for the three-seater attached bathroom non-AC room was 2.66 lakhs. Wardrobe/almirah, bed, mattress, study table and chair and racks were provided to every individual, while the common amenities included mess and laundry, which were all apt. Costs are higher for rooms with ACs and/or fewer inhabitants. The food was delicious and salubrious, but it was prone to getting routine. Nonetheless, it was a site for lively discussions great experience and gave us memories which we shall cherish for the rest of our lives.
