Entrance Preview

There was no particular entrance exam which was needed to be taken. There was a simple application form and apparently a cut off on the percentile scored during high school. However, there was always the option to get your application recommended by someone belonging to the governing body and I had taken the later route to secure a seat in the college.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

It was a course affiliated to the Madras University, hence, the Bachelors in Commerce curriculum was structured aligned to the central state university. The students had options to choose from couple of electives which included Mathematics and Computer Science at that point of time. Rest of the subjects were mandatory as per the course structure followed.

Internships Opportunities

No the college did not provide any such opportunities back then. However, I am not sure if the same is still followed in the more recent years. It would be highly recommended for the college to include such practices as this will give the students a better platform to experience the outside world a little before venturing on their own.

Placement Experience

0.5

There weren't much opportunities to get exposed to potential employers etc and seemed like nor the students nor the college was too enthused about it as most students came from an family business background. However, I am sure there would have been at least a small percentage of students who might have been keen on such opportunities.

College Events

1.5

Like most Indian colleges, our college did focus on celebrating all the national holidays including Independence day, Republic day etc. Apart from this the college was active in some of the extra curricular activities and allowed its students to take part in some of the inter college festivals.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure was fairly affordable. The structure was aligned with that of what was proposed by the Madras University. The batches were split into 2 which included Morning college and Evening College. The morning college students had to pay a INR 2000 per annum and the evening college students were charged INR 6000 back when I was in college.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

There were basic hostel facilities made available to some of the students and in house faculty. However, this was availed mainly by the non Chennai resident students. The college also had a basic canteen which provided vegetarian food at nominal costs to the students.

Alumni/Alumna

Well, not really. We were hardly exposed to the senior batches of students and there were no alumni networking forums made available by the college. Overall, the course exposure was restricted to the existing batches with limited or no interaction points for networking among the various groups of affiliated student/alumni groups.

Exam Structure

It was a semester based exam structure aligned to the Madras University schedule of examinations and evaluation cycles. The college did conduct mandatory mock exams before every semester which allowed students to be prepared for the actual exam and also get a reality check on what their status was to be able to clear and flourish in the examination process.

Admission

There was a simple application form and apparently a cut off on the percentile scored during high school. However, there was always the option to get your application recommended by someone belonging to the governing body and I had taken the later route to secure a seat in the college.

Faculty

2.5

The faculty was a mixed bag. Some of them were really good at their subjects while others were more focused on a day to day teaching approach. Overall, the faculty engagement, quality and involvement could have been higher than what it was back then.

THE average package THAT A STUDENT USUALLY gets is AROUND 300000RS. COMPANIES LIKE HDFC AND OTHER COME FOR PLACEMENT.
