Remarks
One of the major reasons for choosing this college according to me was it Semester Abroad Program and the tie ups with foreign universities it had. Students would have an amazing opportunity to attend a semester of college in some of the most prestigious universities like MIT, University of Wisconsin Madison et al. Some of the good aspects about the college were also that it has great scope for placement it has surprising amount of companies visiting the campus and although quite few of them pay below average, there are still plenty of high paying offers. Bad aspects about the college, one of the things this college lags behind is in terms of curriculum although you will have courses like ML, Data Science the quality of teaching and the curriculum is below par. The college is also very expensive for the amenities it has to offer. Very orthodox curriculum oriented college where if the student wants to do something on his own in terms of academia, expect a lot of resistance from the faculty.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course Curriculum has a lot of promise in terms of the subjects that are available you'll find courses like ML, Data Science, Data Mining etc. But the subject matter is questionable in terms of quality. Faculty student ratio is about 1:70 but varies depending on course. Quality of faculty is sub par there are very few teachers with high caliber and good teaching methods, most of the faculty have dodgy knowledge of the course and stick to repeating the content of the books. An extremely unnecessary amount of exams and although not very difficult they tend to be very rigid in terms of schedule and suppose a student wants to attend an external event clashing with the exams you are better off with your odds in a lottery than convincing the faculty.
Internships Opportunities
Amazon - SDE Intern- Working with the Digital Commerce Team to improve Post-Transaction experience for Amazon Consumer BusinessCustomers. This team develops the Contents, Devices and Subscriptions tab on Amazon.com- Built APIs and UI that pulled customer interaction metrics like hits, latency and errors to understand user experience andflows on MYCD and YMS pages on amazon.com-Automated interaction report generation to reduce hours of manual effort to a few seconds.- Migrated alexa skills and lambda deployments to newer framework versions to reduce technical debt.- Stipend was 60000 per month. Interned for around 8 months.
Placement Experience
Semester 6 onwards students become eligible for placements. Names of few companies that visited the campus- Amazon - Multiple positions - SDE, SDET, QAE, SE- Adobe - SDE- VMWare - Cloud Engineer- TCS - Software Engineer- Infosys Software Engineer- Udaan - Software Engineer- Accenture - Software Engineer- Cerner - Software Engineer, Database EngineerHighest package - 40LPA Microsoft SDEAverage package - 5 LPAPlaces students should be around - 80-85% with others opting for higher studies and remaining unplaced.I plan to work for a few years and gain some experience in the field and then pursue higher studies.
College Events
Campus is pretty crowded but lively. You will find a lots of events happening in and around the campus ranging from tech to road shows. There are two major highlight events namely Aarush and milan also you will find a lots of opportunities to get involved. There are some really good clubs like SRMSAT,SRM AUV, Next Tech et al. that focus on multiple research areas and have won plenty of accolades for their teams. Library is really designed and contains good amount of research journals and amenities. Class rooms are generally hot with only fans available and projectors rarely used.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is expensive there are charges for every small thing in the university. But low chance you are getting any of the benifits of the high fees. Scholarship can be attained with very high grades and being among the top 10 in the university. No on campus stipend jobs are available that I am aware of.
Admission
Entrance was a test akin to JEE called SRMJEE. It was based on the same course as JEE but the questions were not difficult. Ranking determined your course and entrance to the college. There are no other steps in the process.
