Remarks
Placements are good in SRMIST. They claim 100% placements and while the reality is slightly less lucrative, students do get placed somewhere or the other at the end of seven semesters. Also, the infrastructure includes everything that one can ask for. If a student is active enough to make use of the resources, then this is the right place for them.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because I am genuinely passionate about coding and computer science. Here at SRM the faculty to student ratio is about 1:40. Faculties are qualified but are not skilled at explaining topics. Most of us have to study the topics ourselves before the exams. Also, the syllabus is extremely outdated. Exams will be easy if you can fill up pages and theoretical knowledge is given way more preference than practical skills.
Internships Opportunities
I was a technical intern under Virtusa for 2 months and completed a microservices project using Spring Boot and React js. The internship was unpaid.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible from the end of semester 6. Highest package was offered by Microsoft (38.5L). Amazon offers a package of about 18L to women. There are often a lot of job offers for which only women are eligible. Usually 20-30% students opt for higher studies. Out of the rest about 80% of students get placed. My plans are to go for higher studies in Canada.
College Events
Different clubs are available for every obscure passion and hobby of students. Annual cultural fest Is Milan and has events for 4 days. Annual tech fest is Aarush and it features really engaging workshops and demonstrations.
Campus Life
Facilities are all available for students. There is a fully WiFi enabled campus. Library is of three floors and is fully equipped and digitally accessible as well. Labs are well furnished with equipment although they are not used as much, courtesy of the students.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are good but expensive. AC hostel with three sharing room and attached washrooms are per year(Mess+Laundry included). Non AC hostels with three sharing and common floor washroom is about 1.4 L per year(Mess+Laundry included). Facilities are basic and the mess meal quality is really terrible. I'd suggest moving out after 1st year to some apartment in Estancia in Guduvanchery. Registration process for hostels is similar to Tatkal booking on Irctc; extremely poor servers handle too much load in one go and getting an AC room is a hassle while booking.
