Remarks
SCERT is one of the prestigious institutions in Delhi. It is the only govt. college in IPU. It ranks first among the 24 B.Ed. colleges of IPU. It has good infrastructure facilities and excellent faculty. The no. of students who clear CTET is the maximum here. It is not only a college, it is an institution that provides pre-service and in-service programs. The policies and schemes in the field of education are also framed here at the state level. Apart from all the good things, there is always a scope for improvement. The teachers are busy taking seminars more than taking classes. Classes are not conducted regularly but co-curricular activities are conducted from time to time. Here, students have to initiate more than teachers be it studies or any other task. In all, it has been a wonderful experience studying in SCERT as we are encouraged more to stand on our own and take initiatives with the guidance of our teachers. Many workshops, seminars, and internship programs are conducted here.
Course Curriculum Overview
B.Ed curriculum includes Philosophy, psychology, School org. and management, Understanding discipline and subjects, Teaching pedagogy, ICT, and many other subjects that are considered essential for a teacher to help a student in his overall development. I opted for this course as I always wanted to be a teacher to bring some change in society by the permanent modification in the behavior of students. Two sections are having a faculty-student ratio of 1:45. Most of the faculty possess a doctorate. Some of them are M.Phill. They use ICT and discussion methods in their teaching. With the guidance of the faculty, it was not difficult to pass the exams which were held timely in a span of 4 months. If one attends the class regularly and does all the assignments on time, one can score good marks. There were internal and external exams. Internal exams were having a weightage of 25 marks including assignments and exams. External exams carry 75 marks. 50% marks are required to pass.
Internships Opportunities
As I am a B.Ed. trainee, I am fortunate enough to get internship opportunities from SCERT itself. In the first semester, there is a Preliminary School engagement that is basically for observation. Students are allowed the school to serve this purpose. And subsequently, in all the semesters, students get opportunities for internships. There is no provision for the stipend. 8n the third semester itself the whole semester is School Engagement Programme. Students are assigned to prepare TLM's, assignments, craft, Textbook review, Case study, Self Reflective journals to make a clear understanding of the curriculum.
Placement Experience
There is no such provision for placement. Students have to clear CTET after clearing B.Ed. exam in order to get a job. They can only give a reference. One has to qualify B.Ed. with good marks and then qualify CTET or TET in order to get a job. Right now, I have given my first semester exams and during this course, I will appear in CTET.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The course fee for the first and second year is 61000/- each. There is a provision for the scholarship by the university for the Economically weaker sections and other backward classes mentioned in the notice on the official website of IPU. There has been no hike in fees for the last 4 years. In addition to that, they never charge any other expense except the fees mentioned above throughout the course. This is the minimum fee charged by any B.Ed. College of IPU. Though being a Govt. College, they are charging much. But through scholarship upto 75% fee can be refunded. There is no provision of campus placement or stipend.
Campus Life
Anugoonj is an annual fest conducted by IPU but due to the pandemic year, it has not been conducted for the last two years. But it is organized at the state level. Artists who are well-known celebrities are invited here. There is a small yet beautiful library in the institution. It has a good collection of books and journals. Classrooms are well equipped and have smartboards, cameras, projectors to make the teaching-learning process smooth. There are not many facilities for sports. There is a table-tennis table and a badminton court. There are a lot of co-curricular activities being conducted from time to time like the cultural program, art and drama workshops, and many more. There is no such club or website run by students. If they do so, they do it on their own.
