Remarks
My first impression of the college was that it is just like a school, only a bit more independent. The attendance is very strict. Students are not allowed to enter lectures if they are more than 10 minutes late for it, as the peons are ordered to close the gates.
Entrance Preview
I did not have to take any entrance examination to apply for admission into the college for BMS. The admission process required only my 12th scores, the lowest cut off for General Category Students was around 72%, and that for UP Quota was as low as 55%. My score being 84% in the General Quota, I had no trouble whatsoever getting into the college of my choice.
Course Curriculum Overview
The college stresses on management skills by letting us students open up in front of others. We have various activities and cultural fests going on, which allow the students to participate, socialise and get to explore their own personality. We have industrial visits planned every year to give a better exposure of the real world to the students.
Internships Opportunities
No, my college does not provide internship. However, they are always there to guide us through our process of finding a suitable internship program in our third year.
Placement Experience
The placement cell of our college was established in the year 2004. Around 150 students have enrolled for the cell to avail various job opportunities in industrial and corporate sectors. Till date, reputed companies like Zenta Technologies, IBM, Wipro India Ltd., ICICI Prudential, MBT, Infosys, Accenture, Mastek, Cognizant, and many more have approached the college for Full Time, Part Time and Vacation Placements for the students.
College Events
Our college celebrates a number of events, the biggest being the Cultural fest called Tarangan. Colleges all around Mumbai participate in cultural competitions such as singing, dancing, beat boxing, debate, cricket, football, basketball, and many others. Other events include Tarkash, Trishna, NAT Visits, industrial visits, nature club programs, etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure could fall under the category of expensive, as it is not a government aided college. However, considering the facilities offered, it is very reasonable and worth the expense. Many scholarships and financial aids are offered to students who might not be able to afford the college fee.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have not availed any scholarships or loan facilities that the college offers. I do know that financial aids and loans are offered to students who cannot afford the college fee.
Campus Life
Campus life is vibrant and social there are more girls than there are boys. There is always some kind of social activity going on in the campus. Boxing, Karate, Dancing, etc, to name a few. Students are often seen jamming with their guitars outside the college building.
Hostel Facilities
There are no hostels for Thakur College. The college canteen serves fresh and tasty food, at reasonable prices. Students are seen hanging out in the college canteen and also around a shack that serves coffee and fresh made Maggie. This shack is referred to as "Nescafe".
Alumni/Alumna
My seniors are the ones that recommended the college to me. Thakur College Alumni includes a network of graduates and post graduates that have reached the peak of success.
Exam Structure
The entire course of three years is divided into 6 semesters. Students will be tested on each subject for 100 marks every semester, out of which 75 marks will be for theory, a.k.a written examination and the other 25 marks will be assessed by testing the student on activities, projects and attendance.
Faculty
The college has an excellent faculty, be it the teachers, the coordinators, or the peons. I find them very approachable and friendly. The teachers are great at doing their jobs, making studying fun. With interactive learning such as case studies and projects, I find it better than any other college I could have opted for.
