College of Animal Biotechnology, GADVASU, Ludhiana

This college was a part of GAT-B participating institutions. I selected it because it was near to my home city i.e. New Delhi. The labs are very well maintained with all the needed equipment. Research happens with a very experienced faculty. Through GAT-B I get a scholarship stipend of Rs. 5000 per month but they give so in about 6- 7 months after the admission. The hostel is also well maintained. The college is quite a distance from the hostel so one needs a Scotty or a Bicycle in here. You will be allotted your advisor at the end of the first semester itself and you need to start preparing for your thesis work from thereon. This would depend on the advisor that you will be given.

This university comes under ICAR and shares its campus with Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The faculty is very helpful and highly experienced in research works. All of them are P.hds either from India or abroad. Midterm exams happen after 2-3 months of the beginning of the semester followed by an Endterm exam at end of the semester. Exams are conducted timely.

The placement for biotechnology students is less but they say they'll start a good placement from next year onwards. For other courses they placement is there. Companies like Verka, Godrej,. Nestle etc. comes for placement.

If you get in here through ICAR/DBT scholarship exam then Rs. 5000 per month stipend will be provided and the fee will be Rs12500 per semester. Campus placement is less but they do have a placement cell. Moreover, you can find further research help if needed.

The college has various events like Foundation Day Celebration, Cultural Fest, Krishi Mela. Various events like poster making, rangoli making, extempore, essay writing competition, debates, bhangra, etc. are usually performed. The library is good and also has digital access. One can issue 4 books on one library card for a duration of 14 days.

Girls hostel is very well maintained. We have a park, basketball court, gym here. There are PG and UG blocks. The PG block has a single room facility for final year PG and Phd students. The mess is also good and the food is hygienic and preety good.
