SIMS- Make A Difference

This is the motto that Symbiosis is known for and also abides by. Symbiosis, or to particularly say Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies has always thrived to Make A Difference. SIMS has always been known as an Institution for students with a defence background as it provides 90% seats to them and 10% seats to civilians/open-category students. This provides a good diversity ratio among students. SIMS is ranked 9th overall in India & is among the top 3 B-Schools in the state of Maharashtra in private institutes in India. One of the reasons to choose SIMS was this student & cultural diversity and international exposure that couldn't possibly be experienced anywhere in the world. Also, what attracted me the most towards SIMS was, it is a completely student-run institution where all the activities like from planning & organizing an event or conference to placement drives of students, everything is handled and trusted upon to students.

SIMS provides a full time 2 years MBA program spread over 4 semesters. The specializations offered in major/minor include Marketing, Finance, Operations, Human Resource Management, Information System, International Business, Retail Management, Entrepreneurship. SIMS also provides executive PGDM. The curriculum is aptly aligned with the current industry needs. Also, the faculty to students ratio is quite fair. SIMS has highly experienced faculties who are all either PhD or have many years of industry experience. As we haven't been able to get the experience of physical classes yet nonetheless the online classes are no less fun. The faculties have gone beyond their limits in providing us with the best learning they could offer even with technical difficulties. We have periodic case studies, presentations, assignments to boost our problem solving & critical thinking skills, and this a semester-based which gives us ample time to understand the subjects along the way.

In SIMS, students are engaged throughout the year in various live projects & internships from companies like Travel Google, Urban Campus, Bajaj Finance, TrailIQ, Namora, Times group, etc. Students have the option to work in any startup to gain experience as well.

SIMS has an outstanding placement record. In 2018, 225 students were placed in just 18 days. 92.8% placement was done in just 30 days. Highest CTC was 16.3 LPA. The top 150 students got an average CTC of 10.16 LPA. Live projects were offered by Travel Google, Bajaj Finance, etc. Star Companies on campus- Google, Deloitte, Piramal Realty, Deutsche Bank, EY, KPMG, and currently Namora, Credit Suisse & many more have joined SIMS recruitment list.

SIMS has a separate fee structure for defence category, open-category & International students, and also cares about its students and does have various scholarship policies based on merit or otherwise. Campus life sounds enticing as heard from various seniors & Alumni as my batch 2020-22 wasn't able to live the campus life yet. We have the full year filled with many cultural, sports & business events! SIMS has a rigorous orientation program to change the students to transformational leaders. ORION is the annual management sports and cultural festival & BARCODE is the managerial event & a week-long Global Leader's Summit organized by the placement cell where global leaders all around the globe come to share their insights with the students and, etc. SIMS has 10+ teams & cells like Events cell, sports cell, branding cell to make students gain experience, learn & have fun at the same time. There are many areas on-campus to play basketball, cricket, football, do swimming, etc. SIMS & all of its cells are very active on all social media platforms. Symbiosis has a central library portal that is open to all students, faculty, researchers, etc which provides a vast database of resources.

MBA in SIMS has a residential program hence the students have to stay in hostel accommodations only. Students are offered a clean four-sharing room with attached facilities, a common room with each hostel building & a mess with a variety of food on the menu for all the days of the week. The fees for the hostel is included in the total fees through the bifurcation of fees could be seen in the fees structure on the SIMS website. As the location of the campus is in Khadki, Pune, it is near to many markets & everything is easily available to the students.

The admission process is quite simple and smooth. Shortlisting of students is primarily based on their SNAP results previous graduation results, then they are called for the GEPIWAT process which is a Group Exercise followed by a Written Ability Test followed by a round of Personal Interview. All these rounds are thought-provoking & test the ability of students on various aspects like creativity, decision making, teamwork, self-awareness, etc. Only a single merit list comes after the end of all processes of around 300 students which includes 90% students from the defence category & 10% students from open-category, both including the international students as well.
