Remarks
NIT, Trichy is a very good college. Getting inside is tough, but if you can make it, your life is in secure hands. Study well, Enjoy well and you will be placed well and would be left out with only nice memories when you leave the college. I am proud to have studied at NIT, Trichy.
Entrance Preview
I wrote NIT Entrance Exam and got admission into ME(Communication Systems) under Non-Gate Quota. The entrance exam covered all subjects, objective type questions with negative markings too.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was good and had focus on research too. Course included seminar presentations which were assessed seriously encouraging the students to compete among themselves to excel. The course included all the necessary subjects which were the hot topics during that era.
Internships Opportunities
College used to provide GATE Stipends for PG Students, who joined under GATE quota. During our days, internship stipends were there only for Ph.D students, but I understand that the number of internships have increased. I received IBM internship during my Ph.D course.
Placement Experience
Placements are very good and well-planned to see that all the students are placed. Both private and government companies used to come to NITT for placements and to name a few companies, ISRO, BEL, ITI, Halosoft, Jasmine etc. Best packages with respect to the market situation during those days were given.
College Events
Festember is a techno-cultural festival conducted in the month of September and hence name Fes-tember. Students from all over india used to come and attend and win prizes. Famous personalities were also invited to increase the interest. Lots of sports events, conferences and guest lectures are conducted from each department throughout the year to benefit the students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is nominal. I completed by post graduation with a nominal fees of somewhere Rs.6400 in 2000s. Also there were separate fees for Hostel and Mess, but were reasonable that everybody preferred the same. Being a government institution of well-repute, fee structure was uniform for all.
Fees and Financial Aid
Educational loans were provided to the needy students. GATE Scholarships were availed by the students who got admitted under the GATE quota.
Campus Life
The gender ratio was boys:girls as 60:40. No official parties within college campus, but students used to have get together in college canteen. Workshops, Conferences and Guest Lectures are always there from one or other department throughout the year covering almost all the topics with few multidisciplinary too. Student diversity is there as students from all over india used to study here.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are good. Three or two in a room. One TV room for every hostel and one phone. There used to be a student warden for each hostel residing in the hostel full-time. Shopping complex, Bank, post office, sports complex and swimming pool are there for hostelers to enjoy a comfortable stay in hostel.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is strong and the Alma matter is in touch with all and all the Alumni are aware of the happenings in the college.
Exam Structure
There used to be only two internal exams and one final exam. Few labs were open from 8am-9pm enabling students to work and learn during extra time, if needed. Interested students used to do research too under a research faculty to strengthen their profile for placements and also to gain an insight into research.
Admission
I procured the form in person, as it was my native. The process was very simple. Notification was released and I personally went to collect the application form, filled the same and submitted the filled application form after few days.No hassles at all. Everything went smooth. Later I received hall ticket to appear for an Entrance exam.
Faculty
We used to have the best faculty teaching us for most of the subjects, with a majority of the faculties having past industrial experience and a very long academic experience too. Faculties were enthusiastic to teach and used to take extra hours, if needed.
