Remarks
The basic logic behind the MBA education is to drown you with Projects, Presentations, Assignments, Extracurricular activities and let you struggle with them and your personal life until you start to prioritize everything and cross the learning curve in regard to how to manage life in corporate life.
Entrance Preview
I took CAT and MAT, but my scores in CAT were not that good, I scored a measly 61 percentile. Luckily in MAT i scored 99.67 percentile. The only two colleges I applied to were Amity University, Noida and Christ University, Bangalore. My first preference was Christ University and Amity University was my backup. I didn't get the program I opted for at Christ University instead they offered me a program that required me to go to Germany for 3 Months. Amity University offered me their flagship program MBA - General and I went for it.
Course Curriculum Overview
It was a well structured curriculum. It obviously helps if you know what field exactly do you want your career in, but otherwise also they give us one year to figure out the subjects you want to do your majors in.In long term it doesn't matter what subjects you studied in MBA but the skills you developed during the tenure of your education and Amity gives you a lot of opportunities to become a manager.
Internships Opportunities
College does provide internships and you also have an opportunity to get the internship for yourself. The stipend ranges from 5K to 12K. I did my internship with AXIS bank and my overall experience was very pleasant. I learned a lot of my field and how the work goes on in the sales environment. Some of the other companies that visited the college were Tata croma, van heusen etc.
Placement Experience
You are only eligible to sit for the placements if your CGPA is equal to or above 6.0.There were some decent companies that visited the campus but the packages offered were somewhat disappointing at the time. The company names that I can remember are Deloitte India, KPMG, Star nework, Dainik Bhaskar, South Indian Bank, Stryker Corporation etc.The average package offered was Rs. 4.5 Lakh to Rs. 5 Lakh. The minimum package was close to Rs. 3 Lakh and the Maximum was around Rs. 7.5 Lakh.
College Events
There are so many events that take place at Amity that its a heaven for the students who flourish in extra curricular activities. 20 Days in a month there would be some small or big event going on in the Campus (obviously leaving out the exam time and the vacations)There is a sports event called the Sangathan. It takes place at the National level at Noida campus of Amity University, Universities and colleges from all over India participate in the same. There is a big celebration on the founder's day as well.During my tenure at the university I even attended two concerts, First featuring Sonu Nigam and Second one featuring International pop group Akcent.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is a little bit on the expensive side. I come from a middle class family where my mother and father both work. So when I wasn't earning I tried to spend the least money I could apart from the money already paid by my parents to the university. The whole MBA and living expenses landed me close to Rs. 12.5 Lakh over the course of two years.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are good scholarships and Loan faculties available but I happen to not avail them and thus don't have a lot of knowledge about the same.
Campus Life
You would find the students in the campus from all over India and even a few foreign exchange students. I didn't come across any North eastern students as such. There is a fairly equal gender ratio, you would never find yourself complaining about not having enough girls in the campus.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities were very good. We made friends very easily and mostly all the facilities were available inside the campus. Going out of the campus required a pass a day pass or a Night pass which you would only get with a valid reason but over time you find ways around it. and its fairly easy to go out during the day time as the day scholars enter and leave during the same time. Mess food would be a little below average but it was available to us at the rate of Rs. 24/ Plate so it was pretty economical to begin with.
Alumni/Alumna
I haven't been in touch with the university since I got my degree so I would say there isn't a very good alumni network. But there is an active group on Facebook which is moderated by a couple of people from my batch itself.
Exam Structure
The Exam structure was chilled out, we used to get a good amount of time to prepare for our examinations. Which obviously meant a lot of study leaves but in turn the exams lasted for a long time close to a month. I did not for the life of me ever understood how the CGPA is calculated at Amity. If you pester the administrators a lot they will give you a formula related to how they calculated your CGPA but i didn't meet anyone who understood how CGPA was calculated. If you dont get the desired result you make a fuss about it for the first semester and then eventually you just make your peace with it.
Faculty
If you have been an average student all your life, Amity is the place for you. The faculty puts decent effort in teaching you trying to connect with you and are basically very helpful and understanding. Most of the faculty is available for you even after class schedules for any help and gives a the most opportunity to participate in extra curricular activities.
