Remarks

The college is good with respect to amenities and infrastructure. But there is huge scope of improvment in the faculties present. Hiring some experience faculties shall help. The placement cell needs complete make over. The higher management too needs to take pro active steps for the same.

Entrance Preview

Orissa JEE. Rank 5200. EAST is a well reputed college in Bhubaneswar. The amenities provided are good. I could travel up and down from my home. The faculty and the infrastructure are OK. But the placement cell needs a lot of improvement.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

I opted for Electronics ans Instrumention. It covered topics like basic and advanced electronics and basic electrical, electromagnetic theory, control systems, signals and sensors, VLSI design, Process control instrumentation, C, OOPS, operating systems, computer networks, organisational behaviour etc. The faculty for some topics were good but for most topics they were just about OK. They covered most topics but some were left out. The labs classes were well equipped with instruments, but lab classes were not strictly conducted.

Placement Experience

1

The placement cell of the college is extremely poor and needs a lot of improvement. Overall only 15-20 % of the students got final placement offer. The companies which came were Infosys, Reliance and a couple of other small companies. Infosys offered package of 3 lacs per annum. The other companies offered packages in tha range of 1.8 lpa to 2.4 lpa.

College Events

2

Every year annual fest was organised in our college. Many cultural plays are portrayed in the same. Interested participants also showcase their talent in folk and modern dance. Several upcoming singers from talent shows like saregama and indial idol were invited as guests every year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I had to pay course fees of 56000 per year. Now it is around 85000 per year and is at par with most of the engineering colleges in Bhubaneswar. It is not very expensive. However i feel there is need to start scholarship programme for needy students.

Fees and Financial Aid

Our college did not offer any scholarships. However education loans were available to students who wished to do so.

Campus Life

3.5

The college was strict on incidents regarding ragging. As such ragging was not practiced by any of the students. The gender ratio would be 65:35 favouring boys. It is good considering lesser girls prefer engineering, particularly electrical mechanical and civil. Though many workshops and cultural activities werent conducted by the college but annual sports were done every year.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I did not avail hostel facility myself but going by my experience with friends who stayed at hostel I would rate it as OK. The hostel is very close to the main college building. The mess facilities are well maintained. But as the college is 10-15 kms away from main city so it is hectic for hostel students to avail extra classes outside college.

Alumni/Alumna

The senior students during my stay at college were very co operative. Generally the relationship among students of the college is cordial. Most of the students stay in touch with each other and also with the college personnel via social networking apps.

Exam Structure

Examinations were as per schedule set by Biju Patnaik University of Technology. They were controlled well and were mostly strictly monitored. The internal exams were however a lot casual and wasnt as strict as the main ones. The lab exams were casual too.

Faculty

3

The faculty were mostly young and less experienced. Some of them were good. More experienced faculty required. As mentioned the laboratories were well equipped with instruments but they were not strictly conducted. Most lab assistants were not up to the mark

Placement Experience:

the placement is also not that much great. they are very few companies TCS and Infosys are the mass recuriter here . The core companies are close to null . So you have to go to only to the IT companies that to at a very low package . My students work for as low as 2.5 lac per annum . This year almost everybody was between 3lac to 10lac bracket . The highest on campus package are about 25 lac . Not more than that most of time. and the average package is almost about 3-4 lac per annum . The percentage of the students placed is also really bad . Most of the students have to hurdle by himself.

From 7th sem the students became eligible for campus selection. Companies like Infosys, EVEREADY, ACC , ultratech and many more offering annual packages starting from 2lakhs to 8lakhs. Highest 8lakhs annual packages and average was like 3.5lakh to 4.5 lakh. Approximately 70 to 80 percentage of students are getting placements every year. After getting the degree i want to do a job in electrical companies.

I choose this course because at first I was interested to automobile engineering but I didn't got it from other college so I preffered this mechanical engineering. It is a very though course as it seems. And there was 1:7 for faculty and student ratio. Faculties were highly qualified and some did PhD and m. Tech and other are fresher. The teaching skill differ person to person. The thermodynamics faculty was very excellent. In every year there was 2 semester and it is a little difficult. And before semester there was internal and viva.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Padmanava College of engineering is coming under Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT , odisha). As there is always a myth about private colleges that they help in cheating but from my experience padmanava College is strictly against cheating and rather it supports quality of education. If you are a hard working student you will pass the exam very easily.
