An Experience with SRM

I would say that overall SRM has done a pretty decent job in the management of various fields involving the academics or extra curricular activities or the placement processes. If you are from a place outside of Tamil Nadu and you are looking to socialize and meet with new people and furthermore land a good job, SRM IST Chennai is a go to.

Speaking about the course curriculum, SRM IST has what's called the credit based system, that awards certain number of credits for each subject that you pass. In my opinion it is fair and is followed by most of the colleges all across the country. At the end of each semester, a Grade point Average(GPA) is calculated as per the marks scored by a student. SRM IST has helped secure a Job at a core company known as ZF India. The 75% attendance played a vital role in shaping the self- discipline and punctuality of a student.

I Underwent an internship at Adani Power, Mundra Thermal power plant. SRM provides numerous courses in the engineering and medical streams. I personally pursued Mechanical Engineering and got placed with a core company called ZF ITC located in Hyderabad. SRM is known for its excellent record in placements. SRM recorded an oustanding 5000+ job opportunities to the final year students and most of the students secured great jobs in core, IT, sales and marketting fields. SRM does a good job with placing students of various streams. However one downside with the process is that once you get placed in a company you cannot sit for another placement offer. Some streams like Aerospace and Nanotechnology engineering have very less placement offers when compared with the amount of fees.

SRM is famous for its cultural events AARUSH and MILAN. Celebrities like John Abraham, Suresh Raina, Ritwiz, Salim Merchant and many more have come to attend these events and interact with the students. Cultural Events at SRM are one of the very best in the entire country. These events are a good opportunity to showcase any skills you have or even meet new people and socialize with them.

The fees for Btech Mechanical Engineering was 2. 15 lacs per annum for a period of 4 years when I got admission in 2016. Other departments like Aerospace Engineering had 3. 8 Lacs. The fee payments are feasible and the process is quite transparent. SRM Feekart is where you can make every transaction for the fee payment. There are some other examination fees or Due fees like the Breakage Fee and Alumni Fees which I personally believe are unnecessary.

I recieved a sum of 10000 from SRM IST based on my performance in the 5th semester where I secured 9. 1 GPA. SRM is flexible with providing scholarship opportunities to students based on their cumulative grade point average in any given semester.

If I speak about my department i. e the mechanical engineering, there were about 1300 male students and about 12 female students. SRM has a committee known as the Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA). In case of any sort of discrimination or violence of any sort, one may approach the DSA and get suitable help. Apart from the cultural events AARUSH and MILAN, SRM offers many workshops like the Camber racing or the hybrutos racing where the students compete against students from other colleges for cash prizes and other rewards.

I have lived in SRM hostels for 2 years and I would say it was not a great experience for me. The toilets were messy and the management was poor including the laundry. The hostel booking takes place in slots and if you miss the booking slot you, then you may not get the desired room of your choice. The hostel fees in 2016 was about 1 lac. Other than these details, the mess not up to the mark. During my first semester itself I suffered from food poisoning and lost about 8 kgs in the course of 6 months. I would suggest if you get admission in SRM, better get a rented house outside the college premises.

The Seniors in SRM are helpful and friendly as regards they provide with the necessary study material required to get good grades in examinations and an insight to the various facilities available inside the college premises.

It was June of 2016 when I got admission is SRM IST Chennai. I heard from a lot of my friends and my father's colleagues about this college and so I decided to start my journey with SRM. This college has its own entrance exam called the SRMJEEE through which they put up the admission criteria for the students passing the twelfth grade. My academic year started in June of 2016 and ended in July of 2020. Overall I would say my Journey at SRM was exhilarating.

The Faculties at SRM are well educated but lack the conversational skills required to make a student prosper in the most fruitful way. The faculties at SRM are aged on and average of 40 to 60 years with ME or PhD degree. Some of the lectures were quite irrelevant to impart knowledge to the students as to how the real world works. However the practical sessions were quite useful.
