The college is located in Tamil Nadu which is the manufacturing and automobile hub of the country. This was specially important as I was interested in Mechanical Engineering. I also found out that it has many technical teams in various sectors, which aids in technical and managerial development outside the classroom. I was also part of one such team, Hybrutos Racing which builds hybrid racecars and participates in Formula Hybrid, USA. Apart from that, it has national level technical and cultural fests. Fests forms a huge part of student life and accounts for some memorable days. It also gives students the chance to organise such a huge event and participate in it. The cross cultural influence in the college is huge as it sees people from all states of India and even some people from abroad. These were some of the reasons for choosing this college.

The curriculum has seen a huge update recently with the students having the option to choose from various hot industry relevant speciations like AI, IOT, Data Analytics, Block Chain, E-mobility, VLSI, Robotics and many others. Students also have the option to choose from inter departmental electives each semester. There are lots of seminars, conferences held regularly as well as various research projects under each college professor.

There are core companies like L&T Hero Motocorp, Ceat, Torrent Gas, Anand Automotive, ZF, Wabco, Ather Energy, Sanmar, Saint Gobain, Amway etc for mechanical. Apart from that, there are sales, operations and business development profiles by companies like Unschool, Unacademy, Byjus, Amazon. There are analyst profiles from companies like ZS Associates. Computer Science, IT sees some super dream companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Cisco, SAP labs, Barclays, Udaan, HUL. There is also incubation centre SIIC for startups. Some recent startups are Rizel Automotive, Kreator 3D, Mithril Energy, Sure Local.

There is a dynamic campus life. National level techno-management fest AARUUSH is held in the odd semester and cultural fest MILAN is held in even semesters. It sees huge participation each year and also sees big celebrities, bands, comedians coming each year for special events. Apart from fests, there are various competitions and events like hackathons in campus as well as there are technical teams, startups, NGOs by SRM students who work on campus.

The college offers various scholarships on the basis of merit. Top rankers in SRMJEEE(top 100)/ JEE (top 1000), state board toppers and national/international level sportpersons are given 100% scholarship on tution and hostel. Students who rank in top 1000, 2000 and 3000 in SRMJEEE get 75%, 50% and 25% tution scholarship respectively. Continuation of merit based scholarships are based on academic performance in subsequent semesters. It also provides 25% scholarship to alumni wards, 100% scholarships to NGO/tribal communities based on recommendation and 25-100% scholarship to low income families

The college has many dedicated sports ground spread across the campus for basketball( with flood lights) volleyball, football and cricket. It also has a multipurpose AC indoor stadium. There is a central library in University building spanning four floors, each dedicated to different subjects. Apart from this, there is also a smaller library in Main Campus C block. Each of the buildings are wifi enabled and many of them have centralised AC. The labs have up to date, well maintained equipments and the lab technicians are ready to help even beyond class hours.

The hostel has various options of 2,3,4 sharing as well as AC and non AC. Hostel rooms need to be booked every year by each student before the start of the academic year. The hostel has its own supermarket, food shops as well as vending machine. Girls hostel do have in-tym restrictions. There are also options of many PGs nearby outside campus in case you don't want to continue in hostels. Apartment PGs like Abode, Estancia are very popular and also provides security. The rates of each PG vary but usually amounts to less than hostel fees.
