Best times spent in Utkal University

The course curriculum takes into account world and Indian politics. The theory discussion held in the classrooms are very informative as the professors know how to handle a heared argument and discuss relevant points of discussion. I personally enjoyed studying the political ideologies. Even though such concepts may not have a practical component to it despite that, it is very much used in our daily lives.

The placement cell is organized by the placement officer. The information about any recruitment or internship process is send on whatsApp groups and email. However, the number of company that come are barely a few of them.

There were many workshops conducted by the university which were of varying interest. There were guest lectures also conducted on topics such as Freedom struggle, planting trees etc. I thought the training programs were the most useful.

The structure of the fees is scattered so to clarify, you would have to pay Rs. 10,520 in first year. In second year, you would have to pay Rs. 7920/- and Rs. 8120/- in the final year. I definitely felt that each year the fees was low and very feasible. The cost in the first year included the admission fees therefore, the cost is higher than the remaining years.

In terms of activities, the university does not follow the tradition of forming societies or teams that work on their own respective art. Instead, they hold programs for a specific time period in which students participate and get certificates for participation. I was always interested in the workshops that happened time to time.

There are hostels provided to the first year students with a minimal charge of Rs. 5000/-. The hostel is neither in a good nor in a bad condition, it is a mediocre room. However, the university tries to ensure good hygienic conditions as much as possible.

The university still needs to work on forming an alumni network or association that would keep us connected. I have still not been connected to any such platform on which I could get news about the happenings in the university.

With unlimited seat enrollment and the process of selecting students on the basis of merit, it was very convenient for me to get admission in the university as I did not have to prepare for any entrance exam nor interview. I was one of the toppers of my school so, I knew ever since that my admission is possible in the university.

The faculty drawn from the university itself become the core team for personal contact program. The faculty members of the colleges act as guest faculty. The faculty making together the core team have permanent jobs in the university and focus on Post Graduate Courses or Commerce courses. Talking about my course, I generally had guest faculty that would leave college after a year or two to apply to other Institutes or other college within the university.
