Entrance Preview
I took GATE 2014 EC examination. I scored 99.29 percentile. I was interested in the interdisciplinary research program run by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and .Hence, I opt for this college in Interdisciplinary MS by Research Program after by Bachelors.
Course Curriculum Overview
As a research based course you have to take five courses and complete a thesis. The rule in IITM is that you have to publish at least one paper in a journal to receive your degree.
Internships Opportunities
In the research based course generally internships are not allowed. However you can go abroad in different universities as research intern. Till now I didn't get any such opportunities.
Placement Experience
In India IIT have best Training and Placement cell with an average package of 9L. The companies like Intel, Cypress Semiconductor takes the bright student and give the package as high as 60L.
College Events
Our fest is divided into 2 type tech fest and cult fest. Tech fest is named as Shashtra and cult fest as Saarang. Both names are Sanskrit words. In technical fest we arrange lot of workshops and hands on training we also hold competitions. We are planning to hold international robotics competition soon. In Saarang we call popular celebs to perform. Last year Sunidhi joined us and around 4000 student joined the program.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have got the Research Scholar Innovative Scholarship from IIT madras, the facility is given to the Innovative scholars of the institute.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels facilities are little bit messed up in IIT Madras. There are two kinds of hostels here Tower and Non Tower, both have their own problems. The tower hostels have proper ventilation problem but are free of monkey problem.
Alumni/Alumna
We have an alumni cell in our administration block. We have a unique culture of taking vow during our convocation that I will help this college till the end of my life and will give this much percent of my earnings to college. The percent depend upon Individuals.
Exam Structure
The exam structure mostly depends on Professor. Generally we have Two Quizzes and one End Semester with a weightage of 20+20+60. However if professor feels like the course is not suitable for End Semester he/she might assign the project and grade on the basis of work done.
Faculty
The faculty are very intelligent and helping. They take courses depending on their research interests. Due to this they are very confident and also their scholars which act as Teaching assistant for the course are also helpful. Faculty are also ready to help outside office hours.
