One of the best institutes

I think the overall management and environment are totally suitable to give a student a balanced learning experience. There will be lots of take aways at the end of 4/5 years (depending on the degree).

IIT JEE 2009, Rank secured - 4471, Score - 210 out of 450 I had appeared for AIEEE and BITSAT also. I had chosen this option as I wanted a B.Tech in one of the old 7 IITs.

I graduated from IIT Roorkee in 2013 with a Bachelor of Technology in Pulp and Paper Engineering. The course curriculum was part of Chemical Engineering with the first 2 years comprising of courses from all departments.

I had undertaken a Finance and Marketing internship at a startup firm of Mumbai named as Soulflower India. The firm manufactures premium aroma and home decor products. The internship was not restricted to the curriculum but in general an exposure to any industry of the student's choice.

Out of a batch of 49 people in my class, around 38 people were successfully placed in companies like Flipkart, Capital One, JK Paper, ITC, Sapient, BILT, etc. The other 11 had chosen not to appear for placements. They had either opted for higher studies or for civil services exam.

The institute had a MCM scholarship (merit cum means) where good students received scholarship if their family income was below a certain figure. There were scholarship from Alumni funds as well.

The gender ratio was very poor. There used to be parties on Bhawan's Day (the hostel inauguration day, hostels used to be called Bhawans). There were various cultural societies such as Dramatics, Choreography, Music, etc.

We had compulsory hostel accommodation where every student was required to stay in the institute-provided accommodation. The hostel rooms were fully equipped with whatever a student would need on a daily basis.

We used to have alumni meet every year. The interaction used to be very friendly. There is a lot of respect for seniors. There used to be useful interactions with our seniors where we sought help of all kinds from them whenever there was a need.

The environment was very balanced. We used to have time for studies, labs, chill out and sports. The summer vacation could span anywhere between 45-60 days. The winter vacation used to be around a month.

We had a pool of brilliant professors and assistant professors. There used to be guest lectures too. The infrastructure was one big advantage here with lots of research and laboratory facilities.
