Remarks
College management is a little slow. Any work in the student section takes time however if there is a deadline for something the college makes sure that all the work is done on time and no student suffers any loss.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum was the standard mbbs curriculum decided my the MCI. Divided in 4. 5 years followed by 1 year of internship. The initial 4. 5yrs included theorotical as well as practical aspects and patient interraction was started from 2nd yr itself. Being a government college the patient load was very good and we got a lot of exposure to various cases that improved our clinical knowledge.
Placement Experience
After completing the course we have to do 1 year of compulsory internship. This can be done at the parent college or we can opt for a transfer to the college of our choice which may be granted or rejected depending on our final year marks. Since this is a medical college there are no on campus interviews as such but after internship if we want a post in the college then we get preference because it is our parent college.
College Events
One main annual gathering in the month of march along with a ganpati festival in September. Many minor events are also conducted, and a sports day is organised. Quizzes are conducted throughout the year. Extracurricular events on days like ambedkar jayanti are conducted.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Being a government college the fees are very feasible. 50k a year compared to the 25lakhs a year that private colleges take. Initially fees were accepted in cash as well but now strictly demand drafts are the only mode of payment. A complete breakdown of the fee structure is given and no additional charges.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The college offers scholarships only to the reserved category candidates. Such candidates are also provided with free books which they have to return at the end of the year. For general category students, TATA has scholarships in which they refund the college fees if the score is above 70%.
Campus Life
Gender ratio on campus is almost equal. Maximum students are maharashtrians hence marathi speaking. However every batch has 10-15 students from various states. A little bias based on caste is seen, however no politics or any gender discrimination of any sorts.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are provided to all students. They are on sharing basis. Triple sharing in the first two years after which it is twin sharing. The hostels are newly made and have cupboards, beds, desks. Bathrooms are regularly cleaned but are on sharing basis. Constant supply of hot water. There is a mess within the hostel that operates daily till 10pm.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are the major guiders in this field. Without seniors it is difficult to clear exams. Seniors play the role of parents in the college. They help out with the portion that has to be studied for the exam. No ragging or bullying whatso ever. Seniors have to be addressed as sir / madam.
Admission
I had to give the NEET medical UG entrance exam. After which a rank wise merit list was put up. I has to fill in a preference form and then I was allotted the college based on my rank and preferences. There were 3 rounds for the counselling process. The form had to be submitted offline but the list was put up online.
Faculty
Approximately 100 lecturers in the college. The posts are held by people who have completed post graduation in that particular subject. Since they are post graduates, they have very good clarity on the subject and help provide a more practical aspect to learning. Approximate age group would be 30-40 yrs.
